Job description

We, at Leggett & Platt Inc., are searching for an Electrical Controls Engineer within our engineering team to help support our bedding  business.  Did you know we have been revolutionizing the sleep industry since 1883?  That's right!  In fact, we hold the original patent on a spiral steel coil bed spring, filed way back in 1885.  Since then, we have been an industry leader in guaranteeing you get the best sleep possible.  If you join our team, your work will ensure people across the world have a little more comfort in their lives.

As an Electrical Controls Engineer you will have the opportunity to design, test, and troubleshoot new components.  Your contributions will have a direct impact on the business by supporting the GSG/Machinery division.  The team you will be working with is collaborative and innovative, and values challenging work and diversity of thought. 

So, what will you be doing as an Electrical Controls Engineer?

  • Design electrical circuits and build prototypes to prove concepts
  • Program various PLCs (i.e. Phoenix, IDEC, A-B, Mitsubishi, etc.)
  • Program in IEC 61131
  • Knowledgeable in servo sizing and selection
  • Knowledgeable in designing and programming coordinated motion systems
  • Perform engineering calculations
  • Create and revise detailed drawings and bill of materials
  • Ensure component introduction and change management activities are effectively completed and communicated
  • Perform board level and system level testing
  • Prepare test procedures and protocols for technicians
  • Document test results and generate high level summary reports
  • Work with others outside of engineering (i.e. manufacturing, purchasing, vendors, etc.)
  • Review product design for compliance with electrical engineering principles
  • Knowledgeable of UL, NEC, NFPA, and CE standards and work with Test Laboratories on getting product certified

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • 2-3 years Electrical Engineering experience
  • Demonstrated experience in many of the listed responsibilities
  • Willing to travel domestically and internationally, and communicate and interact effectively with customers and suppliers

Things we consider a plus:

  • Hands on experience in troubleshooting servo systems, electro-mechanical systems, test engineering
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical departments
  • Self-motivated, organized, attentive to detail
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)
