Job description

Cabell Huntington Hospital is seeking a full-time Fireman - Power Generation Mechanic for the Operation of Plant Department.
Maintain the safe and efficient operation of the incinerator, steam boilers, feed water pumps, water softeners, chillers, chill water pumps, cooling towers, air handling systems, temperature control systems (pneumatic and D.D.C.), plumbing systems, and all other related mechanical/electrical equipment. Maintain, expand, and improve the hospital's energy management systems.
The incumbent must have manual dexterity, motor coordination, and have a high degree of mechanical ability. The incumbent must be able to carry out written and/or verbal assignments.
The incumbent must be able to read blueprints and wiring diagrams. The incumbent must be able to fire and shut down steam boilers and the incinerator recovery boiler; also, incumbent must maintain any logs that are necessary.
The incumbent must be familiar with the primary power circuits feeding the hospital, including the emergency power back-up systems. This system includes substation, electrical feed transformers, breakers, emergency power transfer switches, sections of switch gear and motor control centers. Functional operational knowledge of each component of the system is essential to insure continuous power supply to the hospital for selected areas in the event of utility power failure. The incumbent must also be familiar with maintaining generators, and maintain all records and logs necessary to maintain equipment.
The incumbent must be able to manipulate electrical system and controls to effect paralleling the generators and transfer same through breakers to place life safety and support branches on line as required.
Education:
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required
  • Junior College/Technical School - (Two Years/Union Hall Apprenticeship) is required
  • Military Power Generation and or Boiler Operation is preferred
  • Navy Training with boilers is preferred

Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 to 5 Years of Position-Related Experience
  • 5+ Years of Position-Related Experience is preferred
