Job description

Description
As an Electrical Controls Technician I, you will play a critical role in maintaining the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of pipeline and terminal facilities. This hands-on position is responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and commissioning electrical power distribution, instrumentation, control systems, and automation equipment that support pipeline operations.
The successful candidate will work on electrical distribution systems, PLCs, HMIs, motors, generators, switchgear, instrumentation, safety systems, and industrial control networks while ensuring compliance with company safety standards and regulatory requirements. This position offers an excellent opportunity for mechanically and electrically inclined technicians who enjoy field work, solving complex technical problems, and supporting critical energy infrastructure.
Responsibilities
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and commission electrical equipment supporting pipeline and terminal operations.
  • Maintain and service electrical systems including switchgear, motors, generators, pumps, fans, and associated equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair DC electrical systems including batteries, battery chargers, rectifiers, and inverters.
  • Support operation and maintenance of PLCs, HMIs, industrial control networks, and station control systems.
  • Inspect, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair instrumentation including transmitters, sensors, switches, solenoids, actuators, and motor controls.
  • Maintain and test emergency shutdown (ESD) systems, gas detection systems, flame detection equipment, and other critical safety devices.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance, equipment inspections, and reliability improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in maintenance planning, scheduling, and annual budgeting activities.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Follow all company safety policies, DOT regulations, environmental standards, and operational procedures.
  • Support emergency response, on-call rotations, and outage activities as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Must-Have Skills, Experience, and Education
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Technical, vocational, military, or equivalent electrical training.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of industrial electrical systems and controls.
  • Ability to safely work independently in field environments.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to participate in on-call rotations, overtime, weekend work, and overnight travel.
  • Must reside or be willing to relocate within 30 miles of the assigned reporting location.
Nice-to-Have Skills
  • Industrial electrical maintenance experience.
  • PLC programming or troubleshooting.
  • HMI and SCADA systems experience.
  • Instrumentation and controls experience.
  • Motor controls, MCCs, switchgear, and power distribution experience.
  • Pipeline, terminal, refinery, petrochemical, or utility industry experience.

  • Electrical Journeyman License or apprenticeship training.
