Job description

Description The department of Facilities Management intends to hire for one position at either the Electrician II or Electrician III classification based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. Please indicate in your cover letter the position you wish to be considered for or indicate all. The University of Iowa is seeking an Electrician to join the Facilities Management Department. Under supervision, this role performs electrical maintenance and installation services required in their assigned area. Duties to Include:
  • Read and interpret drawings, job tickets and plan jobs accordingly and requisition the proper quantities of materials.
  • Troubleshoot inoperative equipment.
  • Install and repair lighting devices.
  • Install electric motors and motor control devices.
  • Install conduit and other types of wire
  • Pull electrical conductors and connect in proper order
Schedule Monday through Friday,08:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Due to the critical operational needs of the department, this position may be required to work overtime and participate in the Facilities Management Standby Program. Location University of Iowa campus Starting pay rate for the three classification levels:
  • Electrician II: $59320.08
  • Electrician III: $64748.88
*A higher starting pay rate may be requested based on exceptional qualifications. Qualifications Electrician II: Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
  • Requires State of Iowa Class A Journeyman Electrician license with at least four years as an apprentice plus two years of experience as a journeyman electrician; or
  • State of Iowa Class B Journeyman Electrician license with eight years in the electrical trade in maintenance or construction.
Special Qualifications:
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and ability to meet and maintain UI Fleet Safety Standards.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience troubleshooting and installing systems ranging from 24 volts to 480 volts
  • Experience with lighting controls
  • Experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs) and motor controls
  • Demonstrate basic computer experience
  • Experience using computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Good customer interaction skills
  • Ability to work in a team setting
  • Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives
Electrician III Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
  • Requires a State of Iowa Class A Master Electrician license with four years as an apprentice plus four years of experience as a journeyman electrician; or
  • State of Iowa Class B Master Electrician license with ten years in the electrical trade in maintenance or construction.
Special Qualifications:
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and ability to meet and maintain UI Fleet Safety Standards.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with building automation controls
  • Experience with lighting controls
  • Experience with Variable Frequency Drives and motor controls
  • Experience with advanced electrical metering (e.g. megger, power loggers, rotation meters)
  • Good communication skills and experience working on a team
  • Prefer basic computer experience
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Experience using computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
  • Ability to work in a team setting
  • Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives
