Controllership Intern information

What types of projects and responsibilities can a Controllership Intern expect during their internship?

As a Controllership Intern, you can anticipate working on a mix of financial analysis, account reconciliations, and supporting month-end close processes. Interns are often tasked with preparing journal entries, assisting in internal audits, and helping to ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards. You'll collaborate closely with accountants and controllers, gaining exposure to various aspects of financial reporting and internal controls. This hands-on experience not only builds your technical skills but also offers valuable insight into the financial operations of the organization.

What does a Controllership Intern do?

A Controllership Intern supports the finance and accounting teams within a company by assisting with tasks such as preparing financial reports, reconciling accounts, and helping with audits. They gain hands-on experience in financial analysis, internal controls, and compliance processes. The role offers valuable exposure to the day-to-day operations of the controllership function, preparing interns for future careers in accounting or finance.

Is 20 an hour good for an internship?

For a controllership internship, $20 an hour is generally considered competitive, especially for entry-level roles that may require basic accounting or finance skills. Internships often pay less than full-time positions, but the rate can vary based on location, industry, and the intern's experience. It is important to consider the workload, learning opportunities, and whether the pay aligns with industry standards in your area.

What is a controller intern?

A controller intern is a student or entry-level trainee working in the finance or accounting department, gaining experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls. They typically assist with data analysis, reconciliations, and supporting the controller or finance team using tools like Excel or accounting software. This internship provides practical exposure to corporate financial operations and prepares individuals for future roles in finance or accounting.

What are the big 4 internships?

The Big 4 internships refer to internship programs offered by Deloitte, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Ernst & Young (EY), and KPMG. These firms provide internship opportunities in areas such as audit, tax, consulting, and advisory, often serving as a pathway to full-time employment and requiring strong analytical and communication skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Controllership Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Controllership Intern, you need a solid understanding of accounting principles, financial analysis, and proficiency in Microsoft Excel, often supported by progress toward a degree in accounting or finance. Familiarity with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems like SAP or Oracle and knowledge of relevant accounting standards (such as GAAP) are commonly required. Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective communication help interns contribute meaningfully to financial reporting and team projects. These skills ensure accuracy, compliance, and valuable support to the organization's financial management processes.

Is 23 an hour good for an internship?

For a controllership internship, $23 an hour is above the federal minimum wage and can be considered competitive depending on the location and industry standards. Internships often pay less than full-time roles, but this rate may reflect the level of responsibility, skills required, and the company's compensation practices. It's important to consider the cost of living and whether the internship offers additional benefits or professional development opportunities.
