About the Role
The Assistant Controller works closely with and under the direction of the Controller to support the full scope of accounting operations for the brokerage. This is a hands-on, detail-oriented role focused on execution and accuracy - contributing to the month-end close, preparing journal entries and reconciliations, and supporting financial reporting and compliance processes led by the Controller. The ideal candidate brings a strong technical foundation, a willingness to dig into the work, and a genuine drive to learn, improve, and grow. This is a growth role for a candidate who is ambitious, energetic, and looking to plant roots, build long-term within the organization, and advance toward a Controller-level position over time.
Key Responsibilities
  • Accounting Operations & Month-End Close
    • Assist the Controller in executing the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process
    • Prepare and post journal entries accurately and on schedule
    • Perform account reconciliations and support the resolution of reconciling items
    • Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll accounting functions as directed
    • Adhere to accounting policies and the chart of accounts discipline across business lines
  • Financial Reporting & Compliance
    • Assist in the preparation of internal financial statements and management reporting packages
    • Prepare supporting schedules and audit-ready workpapers under the direction of the Controller
    • Support external audit coordination and respond to auditor requests
    • Assist with tax compliance support and liaison to external tax advisors as needed
    • Contribute to maintaining GAAP compliance across entities and business lines
  • Process Improvement & Technology
    • Identify and communicate inefficiencies in accounting workflows and support implementation of improvements
    • Participate in ERP and accounting system initiatives as directed
    • Contribute to the documentation and maintenance of accounting policies and internal controls

About You
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Prior progressive accounting experience required; public accounting experience strongly preferred
  • CPA license or active candidacy is preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
  • Hands-on experience with journal entry preparation and account reconciliations
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced Excel skills
  • High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to meet recurring deadlines without exception
  • A self-starter who actively seeks answers, takes initiative, and does not wait to be directed
  • A demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and a passion for learning and implementing new technologies in creative and practical ways
  • Experience in real estate, financial services, or a multi-entity environment preferred
