Job description

Job Title: Controller

Location: Palm Desert, CA

Work Arrangement: Fully Onsite

Our client is seeking an experienced Controller to lead day-to-day accounting operations for a non-profit organization in Palm Desert. This is a fully onsite opportunity for a hands-on accounting leader who brings strong technical expertise, team leadership experience, and a solid understanding of nonprofit financial management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, and month-end/year-end close
  • Prepare timely and accurate financial statements and internal management reports
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, internal controls, and regulatory requirements
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial planning activities
  • Coordinate audit preparation and serve as a key point of contact for external auditors
  • Monitor grant funding, restricted funds, and related reporting requirements
  • Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal processes
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of 2–3 accounting professionals
  • Partner with leadership to provide financial insight and support strategic decision-making

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting required
  • Non-profit accounting experience required
  • Prior experience in a Controller or senior-level accounting leadership role
  • Experience supervising a small team, including 2–3 direct reports
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, and audit support
  • Ability to work effectively in a fully onsite environment
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
