Job Title: Controller
Location: Palm Desert, CA
Work Arrangement: Fully Onsite
Our client is seeking an experienced Controller to lead day-to-day accounting operations for a non-profit organization in Palm Desert. This is a fully onsite opportunity for a hands-on accounting leader who brings strong technical expertise, team leadership experience, and a solid understanding of nonprofit financial management.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, and month-end/year-end close
- Prepare timely and accurate financial statements and internal management reports
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, internal controls, and regulatory requirements
- Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial planning activities
- Coordinate audit preparation and serve as a key point of contact for external auditors
- Monitor grant funding, restricted funds, and related reporting requirements
- Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal processes
- Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of 2–3 accounting professionals
- Partner with leadership to provide financial insight and support strategic decision-making
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting required
- Non-profit accounting experience required
- Prior experience in a Controller or senior-level accounting leadership role
- Experience supervising a small team, including 2–3 direct reports
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, and audit support
- Ability to work effectively in a fully onsite environment
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
• At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including prior leadership responsibility.

• Proven ability to supervise and support a small team of accounting professionals.
• Strong command of financial reporting, budgeting, reconciliations, internal controls, and audit preparation.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fully onsite setting.
