POSITION SUMMARY
The Port Trucking Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a port drayage trucking terminal, ensuring safe, efficient, and profitable transportation services for customers. This position manages dispatch operations, driver performance, equipment utilization, regulatory compliance, customer service, and operational profitability while maintaining strong relationships with port authorities, customers, steamship lines, rail providers, and third-party vendors.
The Operations Manager develops and implements strategies to improve productivity, service levels, safety performance, and cost control while ensuring compliance with all federal, state, local, and port-specific regulations. As the lead operations position, this role also provides contingency coverage for team functions, serves as the primary trainer for the team, and promotes high standards for service, data accuracy, productivity, and operational excellence.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee daily port drayage terminal operations, including dispatch, driver performance, equipment utilization, customer service, and operational profitability.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve productivity, service levels, safety performance, and cost control.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with port authorities, customers, steamship lines, rail providers, and third-party vendors.
  • Train operations team members, including new hires, cross-functional team members, and employees requiring interdepartmental or supplemental training.
  • Maintain standard operating procedures for all customers and functions within the team.
  • Provide direct support and problem resolution for day-to-day issues involving service, expense, data integrity, dispatch, drivers, and equipment.
  • Assist the Terminal Manager with controlling operations-related costs by reviewing relevant finance reports and dashboards and minimizing cost exposure to customers, carriers, and the company.
  • Support other departments in resolving operations-related issues, including payables, receivables, and collections.
  • Monitor and analyze operational performance metrics and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Serve as the primary backup for vacancies and critical functions across the assigned operations team.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, port-specific, DOT, and company safety requirements.
  • Manage office time-off and vacation schedules to maintain adequate operational coverage.
  • Monitor container arrivals, releases, and last free days.
  • Assist Field Safety with expirations and orientations.
  • Communicate with contractor applicants and provide necessary information throughout the process.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 5+ years of experience in intermodal transportation; management experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Transportation or Business preferred
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations, safety requirements, and port drayage operations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and relationship-management skills
  • Team-player mindset and willingness to collaborate
