By leveraging cutting-edge technology, our company streamlines traditional brick-and-mortar operations, making asset management highly efficient and scalable. As the Controller, you will oversee corporate and property-level accounting operations, financial reporting, regulatory compliance, department administration, and audit coordination for our real estate investment funds while partnering with team leaders on budgeting and forecasting. You will also drive process improvements and lead a high-performing accounting team, bringing strong accounting expertise and proven leadership skills to the role. Responsibilities Accounting Oversight Manage day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance. Oversee the monthly review and performance of all properties and provide guidance on necessary adjustments. Administer and maintain company-wide insurance portfolio including property and corporate business policies Provide oversight to accounts payable including guidance on coding, implementing process improvements, and best practices for internal controls. Review department journal entries for accuracy and post corrections as necessary. Coordinate compliance with sales tax filings, real estate taxes, and annual 1099 reporting. Supervise the preparation and analysis of monthly financial reports for all self-storage sites. Ensure timely and accurate reporting to internal and external stakeholders. Accounting System Administration Serve as the primary administrator for the ERP system, financial reporting software, and other programs maintained by the department, managing user access, permissions, and system configurations. Partner with IT and software vendors to troubleshoot issues, implement upgrades, and evaluate new tools or modules that could support other business functions. Treasury Coordinate with Treasury Manager on cash flow forecasting and management company financing Review and approve all distributions of cash including weekly accounts payable, property purchases, monthly management fees, and other wires and ACH as needed. Audit Coordination Assist in the timely completion of our annual audit processes and address any audit findings. Process Improvement Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in fund accounting operations. Proactively address any issues related to our financial controls environment. Team Management and Leadership Build, train and lead a high-performing accounting team. Provide mentorship and guidance to team members, fostering professional development. Promote a collaborative and positive work culture within the finance department. Support executive and management team as main point of contact for operational accounting questions and requests Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Public Accounting experience highly preferred. Masters in Accounting and/or CPA designation preferred. Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Extensive experience in fund accounting within the real estate investment sector. Understanding of construction project accounting a plus. Proficiency in financial reporting tools and systems.
