Controller Hybrid information

What is a controller hybrid?

A Controller Hybrid is a financial management professional who oversees accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance, while working in a hybrid environment that combines both in-office and remote work. This role blends traditional controller responsibilities, such as managing budgets, audits, and internal controls, with the flexibility and technology required for remote collaboration. Hybrid controllers are crucial for organizations adapting to modern work environments, ensuring financial accuracy and continuity while leveraging digital tools to manage teams and workflows efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a controller hybrid?

To excel as a Controller (Hybrid), you need expertise in accounting principles, financial reporting, and budgeting, usually backed by a degree in accounting or finance and often a CPA certification. Familiarity with ERP systems like SAP or Oracle, advanced Excel skills, and financial analysis software are commonly required. Strong leadership, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help manage teams and convey complex financial information across departments. These competencies ensure accurate financial management, regulatory compliance, and strategic decision-making in a dynamic, partly remote work environment.

What are the unique challenges and benefits of working as a controller in a hybrid work environment?

As a Controller in a hybrid work setting, one of the main challenges is ensuring seamless communication and collaboration between remote and in-office team members, especially when overseeing financial reporting and compliance tasks. However, this setup also offers benefits, such as increased flexibility and the potential for improved work-life balance. To succeed, Controllers typically leverage cloud-based accounting systems and establish clear routines for virtual meetings and task management. Building strong relationships and maintaining visibility with both finance and cross-functional teams is key to effective oversight and leadership in a hybrid environment.

What is the difference between Controller Hybrid vs Financial Controller?

AspectController HybridFinancial Controller

Industry UsageUsed in companies adopting flexible work policiesCommon in large corporations and finance firms
Job FocusCombines financial oversight with flexible work arrangementsFocuses on financial reporting, compliance, and controls

The Controller Hybrid and Financial Controller roles share similar credentials and industry usage, focusing on financial oversight. The Controller Hybrid offers more flexibility with remote work, while the Financial Controller typically works on-site in larger organizations. Both roles require strong accounting skills and certifications like CPA or CMA, but the hybrid role emphasizes adaptability to modern work environments.

Senior Division Controller

High Growth, Multi-Location Organization | Kansas City Metro

Ready for an accounting leadership role where you’re actually part of the business, not just reporting on it?

We are partnering with a large, growing organization in the Kansas City area that is adding a Senior Controller to its finance leadership team.

This is a highly visible role combining strong accounting leadership with operational finance and business partnership. You’ll own the accounting for a major division, lead a team, work directly with operational executives, and use financial information to help leaders make better decisions.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • $130,000 to $150,000 base salary
  • Hybrid schedule
  • High visibility with senior finance and operational leadership
  • Leadership responsibility with an established accounting team
  • Significant opportunity for internal career advancement
  • Engaged company culture with regular team events, community involvement, and opportunities to connect outside of day-to-day work

What You’ll Own

  • Own the financial performance and accounting activities for a key area of the business
  • Lead, coach, and support accounting team members while staying connected to the day-to-day work
  • Drive an accurate and efficient monthly close, including account reconciliations and financial reporting
  • Review results against budget, forecast, and prior periods to understand what is driving performance
  • Turn financial data into clear, useful recommendations for operational leaders
  • Spot emerging cost pressures, trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement
  • Work alongside business leaders to improve profitability and overall operating results
  • Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and ongoing financial planning
  • Enhance internal controls and find smarter ways to streamline accounting and reporting
  • Build and monitor KPIs that give leadership better visibility into business performance
  • Assess the financial impact of operational decisions across a complex, multi-location environment
  • Create financial analysis and reporting for senior leadership
  • Champion process improvements that increase accuracy, efficiency, and accountability across the organization

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • Approximately 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience preferred
  • Strong foundation in general accounting, month-end close, reconciliations, financial statements, and U.S. GAAP
  • Previous experience managing or developing accounting professionals
  • Experience within a large, multi-location is highly valued
  • Public accounting experience is a plus
  • CPA is preferred

Logistics

Location: Kansas City Metro

Schedule: Hybrid

Compensation: $130,000 to $150,000 base

Employment Type: Full time, permanent

Education: Bachelor’s degree required

CPA: Preferred

Benefits: Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, retirement, PTO and additional company benefits
