Job description

A growth-focused home improvement company that has scaled from the ground up to $46M+ across multiple states — and is in active expansion mode with a vision to scale nationally — is seeking a strategic Controller ready to operate as a true business partner, not just a numbers-and-close function. This role reports directly to the President and is structured as a deliberate stepping stone to CFO for a candidate with strong financial instincts, a growth mindset, and the ambition to scale a business.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategic Finance and Analytics
  • Serve as the financial thought partner to ownership, translating operational data into actionable business insights
  • Build models and conduct trend analysis to identify risks, margin gaps, and growth opportunities
  • Bring a forward-looking perspective to performance monitoring — surface issues before they materialize
  • Accounting Operations and Controls
  • Own the full month-end close process and maintain general ledger integrity
  • Manage job costing and project-level P&L tracking across a field-based, multi-location operation
  • Scale accounting controls and policies in line with rapid company growth
  • Team and Systems Leadership
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a small team of accounting and finance professionals
  • Partner on ERP and systems improvements to modernize workflows and automate reporting
  • Build the financial infrastructure that supports a CFO-level function over time

REQUIREMENTS

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with 3+ years as a Controller or senior accounting leader
  • CPA strongly preferred
  • Strong financial modeling, forecasting, and trend analysis skills — not purely transactional
  • Experience in a project-based, multi-location, or operationally complex environment
  • Clear upward trajectory toward a CFO role — growth mindset is non-negotiable
  • People management experience

Preferred

  • ERP implementation or optimization experience
  • Multi-state operations experience

BENEFITS

  • Health insurance
  • Dental insurance
  • Vision insurance
  • Performance bonus
