Controller

Regular Full-time Windsor Mill, MD, US

3 days ago Requisition ID: 1181

Salary Range: $135,000.00 To $155,000.00 Annually

WLRC Medical is seeking an experienced, hands-on Controller to lead and oversee our accounting team, monthly close, financial audit and accounting compliance, supporting cash management, and providing strategic accounting support for M&A and integrations for our growing multi-state ambulance and medical transportation organization.

Reporting to the CFO, this role is a truly unique opportunity to help shape the accounting function, processes, systems and integrations as the business continues to grow — not simply stepping into a finished model.

Role and Responsibilities

Accounting & Reporting

  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close and financial statement preparation.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and well-supported reporting across multiple entities.
  • Oversee general ledger, reconciliations, accruals, AP, fixed assets, intercompany accounting, and consolidations.
  • Maintain appropriate accounting policies and consistent application of GAAP.
  • Partner with the CFO and Revenue Cycle leadership on revenue accounting, provisioning, reserves, collection assumptions, and other significant estimates.
  • Research and resolve complex or judgmental accounting matters.

Team, Processes & Controls

  • Lead, develop, and establish accountability within the accounting team.
  • Assess capabilities, responsibilities, workload, and future staffing needs.
  • Strengthen accounting processes, reconciliations, documentation, controls, and account ownership.
  • Build scalable, repeatable processes and reduce unnecessary manual work or reliance on individuals.
  • Develop an accounting organization capable of supporting continued growth and acquisitions.

Audit

  • Lead accounting preparation and execution of the external financial statement audit.
  • Serve as a primary accounting contact for external auditors.
  • Establish ongoing audit readiness through strong reconciliations, documentation, schedules, and controls.

ERP, Systems & Data

  • Partner with the CFO in defining the future-state financial systems environment.
  • Have significant input into the evaluation and selection of WLRC's future ERP, including requirements, vendor evaluation, and system capabilities.
  • Help define the accounting framework the ERP must support, including multi-entity structure, chart of accounts, consolidations, controls, reporting, workflows, and integrations.
  • Play a significant leadership role in implementation, process design, data conversion, testing, controls, and adoption.
  • Improve financial-data consistency, integration, and automation across the organization.

Business Partnership & Growth

  • Develop strong relationships across Leadership, Billing, Operations, Payroll, People, Compliance, and other functions.
  • Understand the operational drivers behind financial results and ensure they are appropriately reflected in the financial statements.
  • Support accounting integration of acquisitions and new entities.
  • Identify accounting, process, and control risks early and drive practical solutions.
  • Collaborates with other divisions and departments to carry out the organization's goals and objectives.

Preferred Skills

  • Active CPA license preferred
  • Multi-entity accounting, consolidation, and intercompany experience
  • Current or previous Controller, Assistant Controller, Senior Accounting Manager, or comparable accounting leadership experience
  • Experience in a rapidly growing or acquisition-driven organization
  • Experience with significant estimates, reserves, revenue recognition, or other judgment-intensive accounting
  • ERP implementation or significant accounting-systems improvement experience
  • Experience in integrating acquired businesses

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with demonstrated growth in responsibility
  • 3+ years leading accounting teams
  • Strong technical accounting and GAAP foundation
  • Significant ownership of the financial close and external audit process
  • Demonstrated success building and/or improving accounting teams, processes, and internal controls
  • Experience working in a complex operating environment
  • Hands-on leadership style with strong analytical judgment and learning agility
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug test.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check
  • Ability to read, speak, and write English

We'd love to have you join the WLRC Medical Team!
