Job description

Vice President, Controller

About the Opportunity

Our client is a rapidly growing, private equity-backed healthcare services organization providing home and community-based care across multiple states. The company supports thousands of individuals through a broad range of personal care services and operates a growing network of community-based care centers.

Following significant recent growth and a partnership with a leading middle-market private equity firm, the organization is making substantial investments in technology, infrastructure, operational excellence, and leadership talent to support its next phase of expansion.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the organization during a transformational period as it builds the finance, accounting, and operational infrastructure necessary to support continued geographic growth and long-term value creation.

The successful executive will have the opportunity to build scalable processes, influence strategic decision-making, and partner closely with executive leadership, the Board of Directors, and private equity stakeholders.

Position Overview

Our client is seeking a Vice President, Controller to lead and build the accounting function for a high-growth, multi-state healthcare services organization.

This is a true build opportunity rather than a maintenance role. The organization is focused on creating scalable accounting processes, strengthening internal controls, enhancing financial reporting, improving audit readiness, and implementing new financial systems to support continued growth.

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Vice President, Controller will serve as the organization's senior accounting leader, responsible for developing best-in-class accounting operations, financial governance, and reporting capabilities across a growing platform.

Key Responsibilities

Build the Accounting Infrastructure

  • Design and implement scalable accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Standardize accounting processes across multiple operating locations.
  • Establish an efficient monthly, quarterly, and annual close process.
  • Develop documentation, workflows, and governance appropriate for a growing private equity-backed organization.
  • Evaluate and enhance existing accounting processes and support resources.

Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting

  • Lead consolidated GAAP financial reporting.
  • Manage annual external audits.
  • Oversee technical accounting matters, including revenue recognition, lease accounting, purchase accounting, and debt accounting.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and reliable financial reporting.

ERP & Systems Leadership

  • Serve as the accounting lead during ERP implementation.
  • Partner with operational leaders to improve financial reporting and data integrity.
  • Drive automation and continuous process improvement initiatives.

Leadership

  • Recruit, develop, and mentor a high-performing accounting team.
  • Oversee general accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, fixed assets, and intercompany accounting.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Ideal Candidate

  • CPA required.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience.
  • Prior Controller or equivalent senior accounting leadership experience.
  • Strong technical accounting expertise.
  • Demonstrated success building accounting infrastructure within a high-growth organization.
  • Healthcare services experience preferred.
  • Private equity-backed company experience strongly preferred.
  • ERP implementation experience required.
