Industrial Control Wiring Technician — North Houston, TX

At Excel Staffing, we connect talented craft professionals with industry leaders across Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Construction, Technology, Finance, Hospitality, and Logistics. We’re growing fast and partnering with clients who count on us for project-based, contract, and direct-hire staffing. This role supports one of our North Houston manufacturing partners.

A day in your life

It’s 7:00 a.m. on Houston’s north side. You open the day’s build packet, scan the wiring diagram, P&ID, and BOM, and plan your layout. You mark hole locations, drill and tap, mount components, and begin routing harnesses. You strip, ferrule, label, and terminate conductors to panels and MCC/IO cabinets, keeping everything neat and traceable. Mid-morning, you switch to Amphenol assemblies—carefully inserting pins so turbine cables mate cleanly with auxiliary equipment. After lunch, you calibrate and test, troubleshoot any anomalies, and confer with engineering to close out open questions. Before you clock out, you verify quality, tidy your bench, and stage the unit for final test.

What you’ll do
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, unit drawings, schematics, P&IDs, and BOMs to build equipment accurately.
  • Assemble components, devices, and wiring per assembly drawings; mount subassemblies and hardware to spec.
  • Prepare products for final test: perform testing, assist with calibration, and troubleshoot wiring issues.
  • Terminate leads to PCBs, connectors, terminals, and contact points; route and secure wiring for clarity and serviceability.
  • Adjust/trim components to meet specified electrical and dimensional tolerances.
  • Drill and tap holes for component mounting; complete all terminations per wiring diagrams using proper tools.
  • Learn and apply techniques to pack cable glands with Kopex.
  • Partner with the Team Lead and engineering to plan work, resolve production and quality questions, and document changes.
  • Perform quality checks; follow SOPs, safety rules, and housekeeping standards; other duties as assigned.
Specialized experience we value
  1. Amphenol cable assembly, including precise pin insertion for gas turbine and auxiliary system connections.
  2. Terminating and routing wire/cable within control panels and MCC/IO cabinets, including stripping, ferruling, labeling, and organized cable management.
  3. Proficient wire preparation: inspect, strip to correct length, and install correct ferrules and labels.
