Job Description
Position Summary
The HVAC Chiller Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial and commercial chiller systems. This role is critical to maintaining safe, reliable, and efficient cooling operations supporting plant equipment and processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on air-cooled and water-cooled chiller systems
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control system issues
  • Inspect compressors, motors, pumps, valves, refrigerant circuits, and control components
  • Perform system startups, shutdowns, and performance testing
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and OEM documentation
  • Monitor system operation and recommend improvements for efficiency and reliability
  • Respond to emergency breakdowns and participate in on-call rotation as required
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records in the CMMS
  • Comply with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate work with operations, engineering, and outside contractors

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED (technical or trade school preferred)
  • Minimum of 3-5 years HVAC or chiller maintenance experience
  • Strong working knowledge of refrigeration systems and HVAC controls
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification (required)
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical circuits, motors, and control systems
  • Strong safety awareness and attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with large-tonnage industrial or commercial chillers
  • Familiarity with Trane, Carrier, York, or similar systems
  • Building Automation System (BAS) experience
  • VFD and control system troubleshooting experience
  • Current HVAC or mechanical license

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, and kneel for extended periods
  • Ability to work in hot, cold, noisy, and industrial environments

Work Schedule
  • Full-time, day shift
  • Overtime, nights, weekends, and on-call work may be required
