About the role

The Process Utility Operator will be responsible for supporting plant operations and maintenance during evening hours. This position requires a strong understanding of plant systems, troubleshooting, and hands-on skills.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct steam blows, line warm-ups, and customer steam line startups.

  • Perform weekly steam line walkdowns and quarterly steam trap audits.

  • Provide vacation relief for operations and supervisory roles as assigned.

  • Rebuild and repair primary and secondary sump pumps.

  • Perform monthly and quarterly valve greasing.

  • Complete sootblower preventive maintenance, including packing adjustments and pressure checks.

  • Repair DBA and EFW drum gauge glasses.

  • Clean heat exchangers for building HVAC systems, boiler house, administration buildings, CEMS, and precipitators.

  • Order and install filters for air handling units, cooling fans, and related components.

  • Charge glycol systems for heating and chiller systems to specified gravity levels.

  • Provide shift coverage for absent operators, including roles such as Shift Supervisor, Control Room Operator, Assistant Control Room Operator, Tipping Floor Operator, and occasionally Crane Operator or BEO.

  • Assist maintenance during nighttime repairs that require additional manpower (e.g., roller grate clutch repairs, gearbox replacements, drag repairs, crane repairs).

  • Support operations during plant upsets or tube failures.

  • Lead contractor groups during outages and specialized cleaning (blasting, water wash, condenser cleaning, etc.).

  • Train new operators on plant systems, layout, and operating procedures.

  • Serve as a member of the confined space rescue team and act as a designated entry supervisor.

  • Address and resolve issues reported through Teams on turbine generators.

  • Maintain and replace filters on equipment including Atlas and IR air compressors, TG lube oil systems, generator air filters, cooling fans (ID, OFA, ULCs), crane systems, logic rooms, control rooms, AVRS, 5kV/480V rooms, and HVAC systems for administration and operations areas.

  • Act as a qualified permit technician.

  • Utilize welding, light fabrication, and plumbing skills for minor repairs.

  • Grease A/E main bearings and shear walls twice per week.

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Chief Engineer and/or Shift Supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Prior industrial, utility, or heavy equipment operations experience strongly preferred.

  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform minor maintenance.

  • Strong safety awareness and ability to follow compliance procedures.

  • Ability to work any shift, including nights, weekends, and overtime.

  • Willingness to wear required PPE, including a full faced respirator, and work in industrial/dirty environments.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with ability to coordinate across shifts.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work at heights.

  • Ability to work in hot, cold, and dusty environments.

  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, and manual handling of tools/equipment.

The range below reflects Reworld's reasonable estimate of base pay for this role based on primary posting location. It is expected that most qualified candidates in this location will fall within the posting range. The final salary offered for this role will be determined based on factors including, but not limited to: experience, education, geographic location, skills and competencies, travel requirements and/or union contracts (if applicable). Pay ranges are reviewed from time to time and may be modified in the future.

The pay range for the primary location of this position is: 33.22 - 44.18 USD per hour
