Security Clearance: Secret Clearance required Job Description
The Power Electronics and Motor Control Hardware Designer is responsible for architecting, designing, developing, modifying, evaluating, and integrating power electronics and motor control hardware for complex, high-performance systems. The role applies expertise in power conversion, motor drive circuits, control hardware, and associated electrical subsystems to support product development from concept through verification.
Responsibilities
• Determine design approaches, key parameters, and hardware architectures based on system requirements, performance objectives, schedule, and cost constraints.
• Perform preliminary design activities, detailed electrical analysis, component selection, and trade studies to ensure technical feasibility and robust system performance.
• Develop and maintain schematic capture and support hardware layout guidance.
• Generate required engineering documentation throughout the product lifecycle.
• Conduct detailed analyses involving power stage design, magnetics, switching behavior, thermal considerations, control interface implementation, component derating, reliability, and fault protection.
• Evaluate electrical requirements and interfaces to ensure proper operation within the larger system environment.
• Identify component operational characteristics that may affect efficiency, controllability, EMI/EMC performance, reliability, manufacturability, and sustainability.
• Plan and execute laboratory testing, troubleshoot hardware issues, analyze test results, and document findings.
• Prepare test reports, technical reports, and design review materials.
• Lead or support technical reviews for design, test, and verification activities.
• Work closely with systems, mechanical, software, firmware, manufacturing, test, and other cross-functional engineering teams.
• Execute assigned engineering efforts according to schedule and budget.
• Track technical progress, identify risks, and support resolution of technical and programmatic issues.
• Assess supplier and vendor capabilities as needed to support development and production objectives.
• Apply specialized expertise in power electronics, motor control, analog and digital design, control systems, embedded interfaces, CCA design, magnetics, and system integration.
Preferred Experience
Knowledge and familiarity with the following military standards is preferred:
• MIL-STD-704
• MIL-STD-1275
• MIL-STD-1399
• MIL-STD-461
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Experience in electrical/hardware engineering and design.
• Strong background in power electronics, power conversion, motor control, or motor drive circuits.
• Experience with electrical analysis, circuit design, schematic capture, component selection, and hardware integration.
• Ability to troubleshoot hardware and perform laboratory testing.
• Secret Security Clearance required.
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
