Waggoner Engineering is hiring a PLS/Senior Surveyor for our Baton Rouge, LA office. The opportunity is a project management and project delivery position. Experience with topographic and boundary surveys for LA DOTD, NRCS, municipaland transportation projects is desirable. Private development and ALTA experience are a plus. Your Primary Responsibilities will include

  • Promote Waggoner's "Quality First" management approach within all aspects of the surveying business;
  • Serve as a surveying professional of record / responsible charge for various types of surveys; Responsible for collaborating with survey field and office staff to deliver projects.
  • Meeting with clients to develop project scope, budget, and schedule for various types of survey projects.
  • Day-to-day oversight of field crews, land surveyor interns, and survey support staff.
  • Responsible for managing all survey equipment to ensure it is calibrated, functional, and up to date. This responsibility may be assigned to staff under your supervision.
  • Responsible for managing all surveying vehicles and supplies. This responsibility may be assigned to staff under your supervision.
  • Reports to the PLS / Survey Department Manager

Surveying Professional of Record / Responsible Charge

  • Responsible for delivering surveying projects to various clients
  • Collaborate with staff to perform surveys and prepare deliverables

Survey Project Manager / Project Delivery

  • Projects include control, topographic, boundary, construction stake-out, as-built, route surveys, subsurface utility engineering surveys (SUE) to name a few
  • Effectively coordinating and communicating with other project team members to meet the needs of our clients
  • Compile and research projects as needed prior to starting work
  • Establish project cost estimate proposals, scope of work, and schedules for negotiations with various clients
  • Assure that assigned projects stay on schedule and within budget
  • Responsible for technical delivery of projects including data collection, field to finish, data processing, and electronic deliverables for various types of surveying projects
  • Project delivery using Trimble Business Center, Leica Infinity, Civil3D, MicroStation/InRoads software
  • Provide independent QA/QC checks

Survey Crew and Project Delivery Team Oversight

  • Providing detailed instruction to survey crew and support personnel for assigned projects
  • Ensure all survey equipment, vehicles, supplies, tools, and software needs are being managed and functional
  • Responsible for weekly safety meetings

What you'll need

  • Licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) in the State of Louisiana with the ability and desire to obtain licenses in Mississippi and Florida.
  • 6+ years' experience in topographic and boundary surveying and survey project management
  • Experience with Louisiana DOTD and/or NRCS projects are preferrable.
  • Proficiency with Trimble GPS / Trimble Business Center and Leica Total Station equipment / Leica Infinity software is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license with approved/acceptable driving history required.
