Job description

KLE is seeking an experienced Utility Pole Inspection Crew Lead to supervise a small field crew performing utility pole inspections, excavations and preservative treatments. This is a hands‑on leadership position for individuals with prior utility pole inspection experience who are ready to lead a crew while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and production.

The Crew Lead is responsible for overseeing daily field operations, mentoring technicians, and ensuring work is completed in accordance with client specifications and company standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead and supervise a crew of 2-3 utility pole inspectors.
  • Perform and oversee visual inspections, full pole excavations, sounding, boring, decay detection, and preservative treatments.
  • Ensure excavations are completed safely and restored in accordance with company procedures.
  • Train and mentor new field technicians.
  • Conduct daily Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and safety meetings.
  • Maintain production goals while ensuring quality workmanship.
  • Complete daily reports, production records, and timecards.
  • Communicate field conditions, safety concerns, and project progress with supervisors.
  • Operate tablets, GPS equipment, and mobile field data collection software.
  • Assist with emergency storm response efforts, including damage assessments, emergency inspections, and restoration support when requested.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
  • Full time travel throughout the state of MI is required for this position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous utility pole inspection experience is required.
  • Experience performing pole excavations and preservative treatments.
  • Knowledge of wood pole construction, decay identification, and inspection procedures.
  • Previous leadership experience or experience serving as a Crew Lead is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to travel for extended periods.
  • Ability to walk long distances over uneven terrain and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Experience using GIS or mobile field data collection software.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work long hours in all types of weather and terrain
  • Ability to work independently or in a team
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION
  • High School Diploma
  • Working Knowledge of computers and software applications (MS Office Products)
  • Must have a valid driver’s license + clean driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Must be able to complete a satisfactory background check.
  • Be able to pass an internal training program (written and field evaluation)
