Job description

Sargent Electric is a leading specialty contractor focused on electrical, instrumentation, wireless, utility, and low voltage systems. Founded in Pittsburgh in 1907, we operate from 8 locations across the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, delivering projects nationwide for our strategic customers.
We support the breadth of client needs — from routine 24/7 service and emergency restoration to their largest and most complex projects. Our proven safety record, technical depth, and longstanding client relationships have made us a partner of choice for Fortune 500 companies, leading general contractors, and EPC contractors.
We are seeking to hire a Project Manager in our East Chicago, Indiana office.
The Project Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, coordination, and successful execution of electrical construction projects, including large-scale, multi-million-dollar commercial and industrial projects. This role provides direction to project teams, manages project financial performance, and ensures projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract requirements and customer expectations.
This position may require occasional travel or relocation based on project needs.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
  • Lead the successful execution of assigned projects by managing budgets, schedules, resources, workforce allocation, client communication, and overall project performance.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to project-related supervisory, management, and administrative personnel.
  • Make timely decisions that drive project success, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Manage the utilization and deployment of company-owned and rented equipment to support project needs.
  • Oversee the development, maintenance, and execution of project schedules, job cost reports, forecasts, and other key performance metrics.
  • Support the preparation, negotiation, and administration of subcontracts, purchase orders, proposals, payment requisitions, and related project documentation.
  • Review and approve jobsite purchases as appropriate.
  • Evaluate and approve key construction methods, means, and execution strategies to support safe and efficient project delivery.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of project documentation, including submittals, requests for information (RFIs), field changes, change orders, procurement logs, and delivery schedules.
  • Prepare and submit monthly client billings and payment requisitions when required.
  • Review and analyze monthly job cost reports, forecasts, and other financial performance indicators.
  • Review, approve, and manage vendor and supplier invoices in accordance with project budgets and payment schedules.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, engineers, architects, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and company leadership to ensure effective communication, resource planning, and project support.
  • Identify, develop, negotiate, and manage change orders and back charges to protect the Company's contractual and financial interests.
  • Support estimating, proposal preparation, bidding activities, and business development efforts as needed.
  • Participate in company training and employee development initiatives and help foster the growth of project teams.
  • Maintain a visible presence in the field through regular site visits to monitor progress, address challenges, and support project teams.
  • Ensure all work is performed safely, meets company quality standards, and complies with contract documents, specifications, drawings, codes, and customer requirements.
  • Lead project closeout activities to ensure all contractual obligations, documentation requirements, and company standards are successfully completed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum of five (5) years of project management experience successfully leading electrical construction projects, including large-scale and multi-million-dollar projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Business Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Proven ability to lead project teams and drive successful project outcomes in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to effectively engage clients, field personnel, subcontractors, vendors, and leadership at all levels.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams, solve problems, manage conflict, and make sound business decisions.
  • Strong financial and operational understanding of project management principles, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control, scheduling, and risk management.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction methods, project delivery processes, scheduling techniques, and industry technology.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Professional, customer-focused approach with a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and construction/project management software.
WHY JOIN SARGENT ELECTRIC?
  • Competitive compensation based on experience
  • Established, growing company with a strong industry reputation
  • Collaborative, team-driven environment
  • Opportunity to directly impact project success and cost efficiency
