Job description

If you are currently a substitute or contractual employee (non-benefited) you are not eligible to work these positions and continue your current position.

School Vehicle Operator (Bus)

Salary: $26.00/hour (Contractual, no benefits included)

Hours: On call as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred. Five or more years of experience may be substituted for education.

Class B Commercial Driver's License (with passenger and school bus endorsements)

Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse effectively with students, parents, school staff and the general public

No more than two (2) current points on driving record and a satisfactory past driving record as determined by the Supervisor of Transportation

Satisfactorily pass the appropriate medical examination for school vehicle drivers

Negative result from a required pre-employment drug screen

Capable of lifting 50 pounds

Familiarity with WCPS policies, procedures, goals and programs, preferred

Essential Functions:

Operate a school bus transporting approved passengers safely in compliance with federal, state and local laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures

Must maintain a clean and professional appearance

Complete required pre-operational and post trip inspections

Follow written route description

Responsible for the exterior and interior cleanliness of the assigned vehicle

Attend all in-service training meetings as required

Maintain outstanding attendance and punctuality.

Fuel the school vehicle

Submit required reports and forms by due date

Maintain student discipline

Perform related work as assigned

School Vehicle Operator (Van)

Salary: $19.00/hour (Contractual, no benefits included)

Hours: On call as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.

Five (5) years of driving experience, during which time a valid driver's license was held.

Ability to read/write English sufficiently to converse with the general public and students.

And the ability to understand traffic signs in the English language.

Ability to work well and manage students.

Familiarity with the geography of Wicomico County roads/streets.

Negative result from a required pre-employment drug screen.

Essential Functions:

Transport passengers safely to and from various schools/programs/destinations.

Maintain appropriate student management.

Maintain a clean and professional appearance.

Responsible for keeping assigned vehicle clean and report any maintenance concerns, as needed. Maintain accurate records and submit required reports as required.

Attend all in-service/other training meetings as required.

Maintain a clean and professional appearance.

Maintain outstanding attendance and punctuality.

Perform related work as assigned.

Bus Assistant

Salary: $17.25/hour (Contractual, no benefits included)

Hours: On call as needed

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.

Some knowledge of transporting handicapped students. Ability to assist students with patience and understanding. Ability to make appropriate decisions in an emergency.

Ability to drag 120 pounds the length of a school bus, lift 50 pounds and enter and exit the rear emergency door of a school bus.

Essential Functions:

Provide help to the school bus driver; securing passengers in their seats; assisting students boarding and leaving the school bus.

Ensure that all student passengers, including those in wheelchairs, harnesses, car seats or any other seat restraining system, are properly secured in their assigned positions.

Assist in controlling student behavior.

Tend to the special needs and conditions of each student.

Assist driver in conducting bus evacuation drills.

Assist driver in maintaining a clean bus interior.

Perform related work as required.
