Position Overview
Best Blacktop is seeking a skilled Asphalt Roller Operator to join our paving crew. This position is responsible for operating asphalt rollers to compact asphalt surfaces on residential, commercial, and municipal paving projects. The ideal candidate has experience with asphalt paving operations and understands proper compaction techniques to ensure a smooth, high-quality finished surface.
Key Responsibilities
  • Operate double drum and pneumatic asphalt rollers to compact asphalt pavement.
  • Follow rolling patterns to achieve proper density and surface finish.
  • Coordinate with the paving foreman, screed operator, and crew during paving operations.
  • Monitor asphalt temperature and compaction timing.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance.
  • Maintain consistent rolling speed and pattern to avoid marks or surface defects.
  • Assist with general paving crew duties when needed.
  • Follow all job site safety procedures and traffic control guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 2+ years experience operating asphalt rollers in paving operations.
  • Knowledge of asphalt compaction procedures and rolling patterns.
  • Ability to read grade stakes and follow direction from the paving foreman.
  • Strong awareness of job site safety.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience on commercial parking lots, roads, and driveways.
  • Experience working with paver crews and asphalt plants.
  • CDL license (not required but preferred).

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work long hours during peak paving season.
  • Ability to climb on/off equipment safely.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs when assisting crew.
