The Prince George's County Department of the Environment is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill an Equipment Operator II, grade A15 position, in the Sustainable Waste Management/Disposal Division. **Applicants who have previously applied for this position do not need to reapply.** About the Position Incumbent of this position operates light to heavy duty construction equipment utilized in landfill applications with considerable skill and constant attention to safety of operation. Work is performed under general supervision and is periodically inspected for efficiency of operation and adherence to safety

This is an essential position in accordance with DOE instruction 110.4. About the Agency The Department of the Environment works for a healthy, beautiful and sustainable County through programs that provide clean water, flood control, recycling and waste management, litter prevention, sustainable animal management and pet adoption in partnership with residents and other stakeholders. Some of our core services include providing clean water services (Stormwater Management Division); flooding prevention for buildings and structures (Sustainability Division and Stormwater Management Division); collecting, processing and diverting waste from the County-operated landfill, commercial facilities and householders (Resource Recovery Division); providing sustainability services to reduce greenhouse gas and emission (Sustainability Division); and facilitating pet adoptions, managing an animal holding facility, issuing pet licenses, investigating cruelty complaints and conducting humane outreach and education events (Animal Services Division)

Examples of Work Operates light to heavy duty construction/landfill equipment and/or bulk collection vehicles including, but not limited to track equipment (dozer, loader, and excavator), compactor, rubber tire loader, off-road dump truck, on-road dump truck, roll-off truck, and other equipment and/or vehicle as assigned. Consistently performs effective and efficient operation of assigned equipment to include mastery of equipment auxiliary attachments to ensure incoming waste and recyclables are managed in accordance with Federal, State and Local regulatory agencies. Maintains all weather roads, repairs leachate seeps, stormwater channels, sedimentation ponds, loads equipment/vehicles.

Reports unsafe and/or mechanical condition(s) to crew supervisor immediately upon completion of pre-post trip inspection and/or immediately upon observation while in the operation of assigned equipment and/or vehicle. Blow out radiator of assigned equipment and/or vehicle in accordance with procedures, maintain cab environment free of trash and debris, ensure all glass is clean and with clear vision in all directions, engine compartment and belly pan is free of trash and other fire causing debris daily. Clean and/or assist with removal of debris, mud, soil, and other materials from assigned equipment and/or vehicle on a daily basis, i.e., track equipment (clean tracks), rubber tire loader, backhoe, grader, compactor, off-road dump truck, collection vehicle, land/lawn maintenance equipment, transportation vehicle, roll-off truck, etc

Assists garage supervisor or designee with preventive maintenance and repairs when requested to do so. Uses proper procedures for climbing onto and dismounting from equipment, lifting, bending, etc. Successfully completes annual safety training and/or examinations in accordance with MOSHA/OSHA safety requirements.

Adheres to applicable safety precautions when operating equipment near utility lines, cables, trees, or other known obstacles, either overhead or underground, in order to avoid personal injury or equipment damage. Performs other related duties as assigned. Responsible for safe operation of assigned laborer(s) and reports unsafe practices and/or conditions to crew supervisor immediately.

This includes ensuring laborers and any other employee(s) on the job site are wearing appropriate Personal Protection Equipment (PPE). Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must meet all minimum qualifications listed below to be eligible for additional consideration: One (1) year as an Equipment Operator I with Prince George's County Government. OR Completion of a standard grade school course.

Two (2) years of experience operating light to heavy power equipment. A valid Class A, Class B, or equivalent commercial driver's license (CDL) with mandatory endorsements is required upon appointment in order to perform job-related duties and responsibilities. Successfully complete equipment/vehicle performance testing for equipment/vehicles associated with this class of work.

Completion of Department of Transportation (DOT) medical exam. Must be willing to respond to emergency service calls on a 24-hour basis. Preferred Qualifications: One (1) year as a Laborer I/II with Prince George's County Government.
