Job description

THE POSITION The Real Estate Appraiser position with the Department of Transportation offers a chance to make a meaningful impact on communities across the Commonwealth. This role supports transportation projects by assessing properties with care and accuracy. You will help ensure that public improvements move forward smoothly while supporting property owners with fairness.

This opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys detailed work and values public service. DESCRIPTION OF WORK This position supports transportation improvement projects by researching, evaluating, and documenting property details needed for right-of-way acquisition. As a Real Estate Appraiser, you will perform the following duties: Property Research: Investigate ownership records, easements, covenants, and deed descriptions to understand all relevant details Site Evaluation: Visit affected properties and collect information relating to market value, depreciation, liens, judgments, and property features Valuation Methods: Apply appropriate appraisal methods to establish accurate property values Damage Assessment: Assist with preparing damage estimates and support project staff through appraisal reviews and analyses Market Analysis: Develop market value estimates by reviewing comparable sales, zoning restrictions, market trends, and environmental factors Stakeholder Support: Provide clear information to property owners, legal staff, municipal officials, and claim settlement agents Interested in learning more.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time.

In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Clearfield. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $53,008 (before taxes). This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.
