Job description

Job Summary:
V3Gate is seeking a Senior Printer Technician (Lead) to provide advanced operational support and technical leadership throughout the lifecycle of enterprise print assets. This role involves hands-on repair and maintenance of HP printers and peripherals, mentoring junior technicians, and ensuring optimal performance of the enterprise-managed print services program.
Responsibilities:
• Serve as the senior, hands-on technical lead for the printer fleet within an assigned territory, installing, configuring, and maintaining HP printers, copiers, fax machines, and associated peripherals on the network, and directing the work of junior and intermediate technicians on complex or multi-device engagements.
• Act as the primary field point of contact for the enterprise-managed print services (MPS) platform, ensuring device data, meter reads, supply thresholds, and service events synchronize correctly between on-site equipment and the MPS provider's monitoring and dispatch systems.
• Diagnose and resolve advanced printer malfunctions, including hardware, firmware, and network connectivity issues across wired Internet Protocol access, HTML configuration portal access, Near Field Communications (NFC), Bluetooth, and wireless (802.11) network access services, escalating to OEM Tier 4 engineering only when on-site and regional resources are exhausted.
• Lead root-cause analysis on recurring, fleet-wide, or high-impact service issues, document findings, and recommend corrective action plans, configuration standards, or hardware refresh strategies to IT leadership and the MPS account team.
• Perform and oversee routine preventive maintenance, including paper loading and unloading, replenishing supplies, field-replaceable unit (FRU) replacement, and equipment cleaning, and validate that preventive maintenance schedules align with MPS service-level agreements (SLAs).
• Manage and maintain onsite and regional parts inventory, control territory parts budget, and reconcile inventory and consumable usage against MPS reporting and replenishment forecasts.
• Assess equipment and fleet performance trends to identify systemic sources of problems, propose solutions, and implement corrective actions, including device right-sizing, redeployment, or end-of-life recommendations.
• Own escalated dispatch calls and complex service activity; serve as the next-level escalation point for intermediate and junior technicians and engage regional/central support and OEM Tier 3-4 services to drive root-cause resolution and timely return to service.
• Interact directly with customers, account stakeholders, and enterprise IT leadership before, during, and after site visits to confirm corrective measures, validate issue resolution, and support broader account health discussions tied to the MPS contract.
• Communicate estimated task completion times, status updates, SLA performance, and potential problems to customers, service management, and the MPS provider, including contributions to quarterly business reviews and fleet performance summaries.
• Perform and validate hard drive wiping and data sanitization for all persistent storage media as required and ensure data destruction records meet enterprise security and contractual compliance documentation standards.
• Record, upgrade, and replace hardware and software systems; install and reinstall software packages and updates, including firmware and security patches pushed through the enterprise MPS management console.
• Provide advanced feedback and analysis, including customer information, printer usage reports, and fleet utilization data, to support MPS optimization initiatives, cost-per-page analysis, and contract renewal discussions.
• Resolve complex Local Area Network (LAN) connectivity issues related to printers and printing, including Netware (legacy), Wireless, USB, Mac OS, and Windows OS environments, across multiple sites and network segments.
• Lead the sale and administration of maintenance agreements, manage equipment upgrades and fleet refresh projects, and coordinate device onboarding and offboarding within the enterprise MPS platform.
• Maintain a positive, trusted relationship with customers and enterprise stakeholders; maintain advanced OEM certifications necessary for supported contracts; attend manufacturer and MPS platform training sessions; and mentor other technicians to remain current on technology and process advancements.
• Mentor, train, and provide technical guidance to junior and intermediate printer technicians, including on-the-job coaching, knowledge-sharing sessions, and review of complex repair and configuration work.
• Offer senior-level technical support for the identification, prioritization, and resolution of reported problems, and serve as a subject-matter resource for enterprise print security, compliance, and MPS integration questions.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Extensive hands-on experience with HP printer repair, maintenance, and configuration, including leadership of complex or escalated service engagements.
• Demonstrated experience supporting or integrating with enterprise-managed print services (MPS) platforms, including device monitoring, automated supply replenishment, remote firmware management, and SLA reporting.
• Ability to analyze and resolve advanced technical issues related to computer systems, hardware, peripherals, and fleet-wide performance trends.
• In-depth knowledge of Netware, Wireless, USB, and Windows operating system environments, including multi-site network configurations.
• Familiarity with Point of Sale (POS) systems and other console or utility stations used to manage, operate, or service covered devices.
• Ability to resolve problems with desktops, laptops, and printers, and to guide other technicians through component-level troubleshooting.
• Excellent troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, problem-solving, and analytical skills, with the ability to translate findings into process or fleet-level recommendations.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users and to contribute to fleet performance and SLA reporting for enterprise stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and provide technical direction to junior and intermediate technicians.
• Ability to set appointments, manage multiple service calls and escalations, and prioritize effectively across a fast-paced, multi-site field environment.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
• High school diploma required; associate's or bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of five (5) years of progressive, hands-on experience in printer repair, maintenance, and fleet support, including prior experience operating in a lead, senior, or mentorship capacity.
• Equivalent prior supervised and structured work experience in printer repair, maintenance, and fleet or MPS support will be considered in lieu of formal education.
• HP certification specific to printer repair and maintenance required.
Preferred:
• Experience with digital printers and associated pre- and post-processing equipment, and prior exposure to enterprise MPS platforms such as HP Web Jetadmin, Lexmark Markvision Enterprise, or comparable fleet management consoles, preferred.
• Active DoD Secret clearance (or equivalent) preferred; candidates without an active clearance must be eligible to obtain one.
• Coursework or practical training in computer systems, data communications, networking, operating systems, or programming is a plus.
• PDI+ certification demonstrating proficiency in the maintenance of fax machines, printers, and copiers strongly preferred.
• Advanced or specialist-level OEM certification, or equivalent demonstrated proficiency, in enterprise fleet management or managed print services platforms strongly preferred.
