Job description

Applies advanced technical knowledge to solve unusually complex problems that typically cannot be solved solely by referencing manufacturers' manuals or similar documents such as determining the location and density of circuitry evaluating electromagnetic radiation, isolating malfunctions, and incorporating engineering changes. Understands the interrelationships of circuits. Exercises independent judgement in performing task such as making circuit analyses, calculating waveforms, and tracing relationships in signal flows.

Uses complex test instruments such as high frequency pulse generators, frequency synthesizers, distortion analyzers, and complex computer control equipment. Work may be reviewed by supervisor for general compliance with accepted practices. May provide technical guidance to lower level technicians.

Keeps management informed of daily operations and assists management in developing procedures, instructions, plans, schedules, and training programs. Provides professional and courteous customer service. Performs preventive maintenance such as oiling and greasing moving parts, replacing worn parts, and adjusting equipment for optimal performance.

May be required to install, or maintain electric or hydraulic freight or passenger elevators, escalators, or moving walkways and related equipment; Install, test and adjust safety control devices, dissemble defective units and repair or replace suspect parts; Adjust valves, ratchets, seals, brake linings and other components. Carries out preventative maintenance programs to troubleshoot electrical or mechanical systems for failures. Reads blueprints to determine the equipment needed for installation or repairs Installs or repairs elevator doors, steel frames, and cables, motors, and control systems.

Locates malfunctions in brakes, motors, switches, and control systems. Connects electrical wiring to control panels and electric motors. Uses test equipment, such as ammeters and voltmeters, to diagnose problems.

Adjust counterweights, door mechanisms, and safety controls. Complies with safety regulations and building codes. Keeps service records of all maintenance and repair tasks.

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Must have a minimum of five (5) years related experience or equivalent. Must have good communication skills both written and spoken.

Must be knowledgeable with Microsoft Office programs. Must be knowledgeable of elevator repair and maintenance techniques and related equipment. Must be knowledgeable of computerized control systems and systems for troubleshooting.

Must be knowledgeable of electronics, hydraulics, and electricity. Must have related experience to elevator repair and maintenance or an equivalent combination of formal training and/or education specific to the job.
