Job Overview

Become a part of our team at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center located in San Francisco, CA as a Physician - Clinical Geneticist (Remote)!

The selected candidate will function as a Clinical Geneticist, tasked with providing comprehensive genetic care. This role encompasses addressing a wide array of genetic care requirements for VA patients, delivering genetic services through various methods, including virtual consultations; actively engaging as a member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team; contributing to the education of physicians and other healthcare professionals; coordinating care with additional VA clinical services; and acting as the collaborating physician for genetic counselors.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Make autonomous professional judgments and recommendations.
  • Engage in the formulation of service priorities and objectives.
  • Foster a culture dedicated to quality, education, compassion, teamwork, innovation, accountability, integrity, and creative problem-solving.
  • Contribute to the creation of clinical protocols to ensure the evidence-based application of genetic services, including germline genetic testing.
  • Provide high-quality genetic care, including assessing performance against care standards, clinical effectiveness, adherence to policies, and quality enhancement.
  • Utilize systems-based approaches to ensure optimal care coordination.
  • Act as the collaborating physician for genetic counselors, which includes attending regular (e.g., weekly) meetings with genetic counselors; promptly addressing clinical inquiries from genetic counselors outside of scheduled meetings; participating in weekly case conferences, if available; and documenting clinical assessments or management plans in the medical record as necessary.
  • Attend meetings, conferences, workshops, seminars, and symposia to maintain expertise in clinical genetics and support the integration of VISN 21 CRH plans and priorities for genetic care delivery.
  • Serve on relevant VA committees and take on a subject matter expert role as requested by VISN 21 CRH leadership.
  • Assist in the adoption of new genetic practices.

Benefits and Features

  • Expected Salary Range: between $260K - $295K (negotiable based on the candidate's qualifications, credentials, and experience).
  1. Work Schedule: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday, PST.
  2. Remote Work: This role is fully remote outside of the working area. Please be aware that this position may be subject to the Presidential Memorandum titled "Return to In-Person Work," which could require in-office attendance.
  3. Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment): Authorized.
  4. Compensation: Competitive salary, annual performance bonuses, and regular salary increases.
  5. Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off annually (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays, and potentially 5 days of paid absence for CME).
  6. Retirement Benefits: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with contributions of up to 5% by the organization.
  7. Insurance Coverage: Federal health, vision, dental, term life, and long-term care insurance (many federal insurance programs can be continued into retirement).
  8. Licensure: One full and unrestricted license from any U.S. state or territory.
  9. CME: Potential reimbursement of up to $1,000 per year (must be full-time with board certification).
  10. Malpractice Coverage: Liability protection with tail coverage provided at no cost.
  11. Contractual Terms: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restrictions on moonlighting.
