Position Title
Biomed Equipment Technician Apprentice
Bell Hospital
Position Summary / Career Interest:
Under relatively close supervision, the Biomedical Equipment Technician Apprentice will perform repair, calibration, preventive maintenance, inspection, and installation of a diverse range of diagnostic, therapeutic, and physiological monitoring equipment and systems used in direct patient care.
By following policies, procedures, and standards, they will assure safety and compliance of the equipment they are responsible for and assume responsibility for risk and safety issues associated with the position. When necessary, the employee will participate in performance improvement activities. Utilizing resources efficiently and effectively is a primary function of the position. It is the responsibility of the employee to bring ideas/concerns to their supervisor and participate in department decision-making.
Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.
  • 1. Complete education requirements during the 2-year apprenticeship:
  • a. OSHA 10 training
  • b. Anatomy/Physiology (3 credits)
  • c. College Algebra/Calculus (3 credits)
  • d. DC, AC & Digital Electronics course
  • e. 70 contact hours of training from industry sources over 2 years
  • f. CABT certification
  • g. IT Fundamentals certification
  • 2. Demonstrates ability to perform repair, calibration, preventive maintenance, inspection, and installation of a diverse range of diagnostic, therapeutic, and physiological monitoring equipment and systems used in direct patient care.
  • 3. Diagnose and correct system and equipment malfunctions.
  • 4. Maintain accurate and timely documentation on new equipment, inspections, and equipment repairs and failures.
  • 5. Provide technical assistance and instruction on equipment operation and maintenance to clinical staff.
  • 6. Schedule and oversee vendor and third-party repairs as necessary.
  • 7. Maintain accurate inventory, tracking both the addition and deactivation of clinical equipment.
  • 8. Must have a valid driver's license to be able to provide service to all TUKHS Biomedical Engineering Department customers.
  • 9. Perform related duties as assigned.
