POSITION PURPOSE:
The Fiber Design Engineer position is for highly experienced Engineer with experience in Outside Plant activities such as splicing and fiber connectivity design. The position requires the Engineer to utilize mapping and fiber management systems like 3-GIS, Arc GIS, OSP Insight, or CircuitVision. Being able to thrive in a fast-paced environment encompassing construction and trouble management responsibilities for all aspects of physical fiber optic plant is vital for this position.
Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • 1+ years of fusion splicing experience
  • Previous experience fiber management software such as Arc GIS, OSP insight, 3 GIS, or CircuitVision
  • Degree in GIS or FOT certification

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • 2+ years installing/troubleshooting/designing Fiber Optic and Ethernet Physical transport in a service provider environment.
  • 1+ years testing QCing and delivering high speed telecom services using test units such as OTDR, Fusion Splicer, Power Meter, and other Fiber Optic test Sets.
  • 1+ years directly managing inside and outside plant construction projects, capital budgets, and contractors.
  • Proficiency using mapping and fiber management software i.e. Arc GIS, 3-GIS, QGIS, Google Earth, CircuitVision
  • Proficiency using Microsoft WORD & Excel, Visio and CAD software
  • Availability to perform on-call work as prescribed to include after-hours (nights and weekends) call outs.
  • Self-motivated and the ability to make independent decisions based on policies, practices & project requirements.
