Job description


Our Omaha office is seeking a Field Engineer, Scientist and Geologist to join our Team in the Environmental Department! The Omaha offices has a diverse client base in both public and private sectors working in the commercial, industrial, government and institutional markets. As an environmental field engineer, scientist, or geologist, you will work outdoors during all seasons conducting environmental media (soil, water, soil gas, etc.) sampling and remediation system operation and maintenance. A basic understanding of mechanical (pumps, compressors, blowers, etc.) and electrical control systems and strong mechanical aptitude is essential to the job, as is routine out of town travel.
Responsibilities
Conduct environmental site investigations, assessments and surveys to sample, measure and analyze air, water, material and soil. Conduct well sampling. Conduct monitoring and perform repairs to environmental remediation systems. Collaborate with environmental engineering/scientist/geologist staff on projects. In this position, you will participate in various aspects of environmental assessment and remediation projects. You will be able to develop in your scientific profession, and your assignments will be designed to increase your knowledge and abilities. You will assist in optimizing mitigation strategies and ensuring compliance with regulations. You will grow from assisting in remediation system design and environmental protection plans to mastering these skills. Projects may include Phase I/II environmental site assessments, tank closure assessments, and soil and groundwater remediation.
Essential Role and Responsibilities:
  • Perform site visits, field observations and field data collection or assignments. Most assignments are field assignments requiring out of town travel for 75% of the typical work week (Mon-Fri), although some weekend work is occasionally required.
  • Conduct water, soil, and air sampling.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems
  • Assignments are designed to develop knowledge and abilities.
  • Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management
  • Maintain quality standards on all projects.
  • Evaluate mostly routine laboratory and field data for inclusion in reports.
  • Prepare reports or sections of larger reports.
  • Consult with other technical people and supervisor on routine and less complex projects.
  • Write routine proposals and assist in the preparation of more complex proposals.
  • There will be some client contact pertaining to specific projects/tasks.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, geology environmental science or related science field with one year of related experience or, in lieu of a degree, 5 years' related experience.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history
  • Ability to travel out of town on a routine basis
  • Strong organization skills
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training, or ability to obtain upon employment
  • DOT medical card, or ability to obtain upon employment
  • Ability to operate 1/2-ton to 1-ton trucks and occasionally tow a trailer
