Job description


Subject Matter Expert – Mapping, Charting, & Geodesy

The Subject Matter Expert (SME) provides technical and programmatic expertise across multiple MC&G mission domains. These include:

· Earth sciences and geospatial modeling (e.g., geodetic frameworks, gravity and magnetic field models, and elevation data)

· Safety of navigation in maritime and aeronautical environments

· Land-based navigation support (including geographic names, topographic mapping, and socio-cultural geography)

· Integration and dissemination of geospatial content

Key Responsibilities:

· Facilitate cross-branch coordination within the MC&G portfolio to support leadership priorities

· Provide program and technical management support for interagency contracts

· Analyze internal policies and leadership decisions impacting MC&G operations

· Evaluate and report on special topics and initiatives relevant to leadership priorities

· Coordinate outreach and engagement with internal and external stakeholders, including other directorates, interagency partners, and mission owners

· Support program management functions, including oversight of cost, schedule, performance, risk, and compliance

· Review contract deliverables, assist with subcontracting activities, and support negotiation efforts through technical evaluations

· Assist in preparing contractual documentation such as SOWs, funding documents, and engineering change proposals

· Contribute to acquisition lifecycle activities and planning processes including POM, budget execution, and roadmap development

· Conduct assessments on programmatic and operational challenges; lead the resolution of cross-cutting issues

· Monitor and assess contractual and financial performance, including invoice validation and fund tracking

· Maintain compliance with policies, procedures, and standards through regular reviews and analysis

· Identify risks and opportunities and track ongoing program metrics and reporting requirements

· Prepare and deliver briefings, reports, and other communications as needed

· Support mission enhancement initiatives by analyzing alternatives and supporting engineering assessments

Day-to-Day Activities May Include:

· Planning and implementing process improvements and optimization strategies

· Addressing multi-contract issues and cross-organizational challenges

· Providing expert input to interagency working groups in relevant foundational geospatial areas

· Supporting timely response to taskings that impact the MC&G domain

· Assisting with funding allocation strategies and tracking execution

· Documenting and reporting weekly activities and technical challenges

· Researching and summarizing background information on mission-relevant topics

Required Qualifications:

· Minimum of 5 years of experience in MC&G mission areas, or 10 years within the geospatial or defense intelligence communities

· Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Geography, Geodetic Sciences, GIS, or related STEM field

· At least 2 years of experience applying systems engineering principles and implementation planning across complex systems

· At least 2 years of experience in programmatic or technical roles within large IT organizations (≥$100M budget and/or ≥100 staff)

Preferred Qualifications:

· Master’s degree in a relevant STEM or geospatial discipline

· Experience in managing geospatial product lifecycle and dissemination within large programs

· Familiarity with acquisition processes within defense or intelligence communities

Security Clearance Requirement:

· Active TS/SCI clearance required
