(ELA) English Language Arts Teacher

In New Jersey, an ELA teacher's job description typically involves planning and delivering engaging instruction in English Language Arts, focusing on reading, writing, and communication skills, while also fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. 

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

Instruction and Curriculum:

• Develop and implement engaging lesson plans aligned with New Jersey Student Learning Standards and district curriculum.
• Teach reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and literature to students.
• Utilize a variety of instructional methods, including both complex fiction and non-fiction texts.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of all learners.
• Create a classroom environment that promotes active learning and critical thinking.

Assessment and Feedback:

• Assess student learning through various methods, including formative and summative assessments.
• Provide timely and constructive feedback to students on their work.
• Analyze student data to inform instruction and improve student outcomes.

Classroom Management and Environment:

• Maintain a safe, organized, and stimulating learning environment.
• Manage student behavior effectively and create a positive classroom culture.
• Collaborate with parents and other professionals to support student learning.

Professional Development and Collaboration:

• Participate in professional development activities to enhance teaching skills.
• Collaborate with colleagues to improve teaching practices and curriculum development.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff.

Other Responsibilities:

• Attend school events and extracurricular activities.
• Complete required paperwork and reports in a timely manner.
• Follow all school policies and procedures.
• Serve as a role model for students, demonstrating professionalism and a commitment to learning.

The Hiring Process

• Interview Process: Human Resources does not conduct initial interviews for teaching positions. These are handled directly by school administration. They will contact you directly should they have an opening.
• Selection: Should a need arise, school principals will review the candidate pool to select candidates for an interview. Interviews may be in person, virtual, and could include demonstration lessons.
• Onboarding: Human Resources will follow up with selected candidates to guide them through the onboarding process.
