Job description

Amazon Books Legal is hiring a strategic legal advisor for the Books content acquisition teams. In this role, you'll partner directly with the business to support relationships with the biggest traditional publishers across both ebook and print formats. That means negotiating, drafting, and interpreting the contractual terms that shape how publisher content reaches readers. Beyond transactional execution, you'll need high judgment and intellectual curiosity to dive deep into the nuances of our business models, services, and operations to find creative solutions and drive innovation in an established and growing business.
Key job responsibilities
- Serve as primary legal counsel for content acquisition teams
- Provide legal guidance on product and program development, pricing, and regulatory compliance
- Negotiate and draft content licensing and purchase agreements
- Manage vendor disputes; coordinate with outside counsel and internal litigation teams on consumer litigation
- Partner with cross-functional teams (PR, public policy) on go-to-market strategies
- Advise on AI-powered features

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of legal experience
- Juris Doctor and membership in one state bar or equivalent
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working at a corporate law firm
- Experience in intellectual property or content licensing
- Experience in digital media, publishing, or subscription services
- Demonstrated ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice in fast-paced environments
- Experience managing vendor disputes or litigation

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location. Amazon also offers comprehensive benefits including health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D insurance and option for Supplemental life plans, EAP, Mental Health Support, Medical Advice Line, Flexible Spending Accounts, Adoption and Surrogacy Reimbursement coverage), 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
