Associate/Midlevel Manufacturing Research and Development (MR&D) Engineer

Company:

Boeing Aerospace Operations

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is looking for an Associate/Midlevel Manufacturing Research and Development (MR&D) Engineer based out of San Antonio, Texas.

This position will support the San Antonio site and will report to the Materials and Process Technology Engineering Manager in San Antonio, Texas.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provides shipside support and rapid solution development to all programs at the San Antonio site.

  • Performs assessments on technologies proposed and/or procured for production

  • Works directly with engineering, manufacturing and suppliers to perform manufacturing process improvements and implement manufacturing technologies to achieve cost reductions

  • Resolves programmatic and technical problems that would affect cost, schedule, and performance

  • Supports root cause and corrective action reviews by conducting engineering investigations for fabrication and/or assembly issues

  • Defines requirements and approves tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes used in the engineering design, manufacture and/or maintenance of products

  • Produces specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes

  • Maintains compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations. Promotes standardization across business activities

  • Evaluates emerging technologies for potential application to business needs

  • Develops and qualifies new tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes to meet requirements

  • Integrates new technologies as appropriate

  • Supports test and audit programs to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements

  • Conducts analysis to characterize performance or determine reasons for failure of tools, materials, parts or processes

  • Designs, develops and qualifies computer and production systems to satisfy user requirements

  • Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements. Incorporates environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance post-start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement

  • 3+ years' experience in mechanical/structures assembly, materials and processes engineering, and/or manufacturing research and development

  • 3+ experience with 3D Modeling tools

  • 1+ years' Project Management Experience

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in aerospace, mechanical engineering, and/or material science

  • Hands-on experience in a manufacturing or machine shop environment

  • Experience with technology implementation

  • MRO experience

  • Active Security Clearance

  • Active Yankee White Clearance

Typical Education:

Level 2: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
