The Role
GM's Motorsports IT team will analyze, define, and deliver the next generation of cutting-edge Motorsports IT software solutions. Leveraging both state of the art cloud based infrastructure and software development standards, these solutions will enable innovative interactions between GM Motorsports and our GM Race teams to accelerate our drivers to the finish line first! Our combined team of architects, developers, data scientists, and project managers work closely with GM Motorsports Engineering and Race teams to ensure delivery of break-through technologies for NASCAR, IndyCar, F1, and Sports Car GM teams.
The Competition Senior Product Owner will work with broader engineering teams, stakeholders, and partner race team customers to collect software needs then translate into Epics/Features/User Stories/Defects/Workflows/Diagrams/etc. which align with overall Motorsports strategy for Timing and Scoring, Race Strategy, Multi-Media Intelligence, Weather, and Telemetry data. This position will specifically support GM Motorsports race teams across NASCAR and IndyCar.
What You'll Do
• Work with Software Development teams to communicate Epics/Features/User Stories/Defects in a consumable fashion to be executed on.
• Translate software product strategies into requirements and roadmaps.
• Manage ongoing changes and cross-team coordination & status.
• Define priorities and help communicate them to key stakeholders.
• Assist other teams through software product development to meet objectives.
• Drive software product releases, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.
• Leverages market research & continuous exploration to continually understand customer & market- includes competitive benchmarking.
• Track software performance (e.g. analytics) and suggest improvements to customer experience and product strategy.
• Daily management on digital products with strategic mindset upon mid/long term product enhancement.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
5+ years experience as a product manager, product owner, business analyst, systems analyst, or similar role.
• Bachelors degree (or higher), majoring in Mechanical Engineering/Computer Science/Computer Information Systems/Digital Communication or relevant field.
• Experience with timing and scoring or race strategy software.
• Experience with Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar backlog tracking tooling
• Experience working in an agile delivery environment.
• Proven track record of managing all aspects of a successful product throughout its lifecycle.
• Past experience building software, B2B products, or system solutions.
• Since supporting the race teams is our top priority, this role will require weekend support, occasional travel to races and shops to experience the customers using the application during race events (up to 25%).
People Skills:
  • Experience with prioritizing and multitasking.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to do what it takes to get the job done.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, written and verbal, fluent in English.
  • Excellent strategic agility - ability to recognize & capitalize on opportunities, identify and avoid threats, and pivot when needed.
  • Comfortable with communicating to senior executives.
  • Proven ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams without formal authority.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of Motorsports in a particular series (NASCAR/IndyCar/IMSA/WEC/Formula1).
  • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or related field.
  • Experience with race strategy and motorsports data analysis.
