Job Description

Tensley Consulting is seeking an Automated Test Engineer to support the development, integration, and testing of mission-critical software systems. The ideal candidate will have hands-on Python development experience, a strong background in automated software testing, and experience working within modern CI/CD environments.


This position will focus on developing and maintaining automated test solutions, supporting software integration activities, troubleshooting system and network-level issues, and improving the reliability and quality of software releases.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and execute automated software tests using Python.
  • Build automated test solutions using frameworks such as pytest.
  • Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins or Bamboo.
  • Analyze software and system requirements to develop appropriate test strategies.
  • Support software system development, integration, and testing activities.
  • Identify, document, troubleshoot, and track software defects.
  • Use version-control systems such as Git or Subversion to manage software and test code.
  • Test applications operating within Unix, Linux, or Windows environments.
  • Assist with network and protocol-level troubleshooting and analysis.
  • Collaborate with software developers, systems engineers, and other technical stakeholders to improve software quality.


Education / Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline from an accredited college or university is required.

Four (4) years of relevant military experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.

A master’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering is preferred.


Salary: $100,000-$180,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position, but is not guaranteed. Salary is based on experience, location and contractual requirements which could fall outside of the range listed.

  • Experience developing software in Python, preferably using Python virtual environments.
  • Experience developing automated tests using pytest or a similar testing framework.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or Bamboo.
  • Experience using version-control tools such as Git or Subversion.
  • Understanding of software development, integration, and testing methodologies.
  • Experience developing or testing software in Unix, Linux, or Windows environments.
  • Knowledge and experience in at least three of the following areas:
  • System requirements analysis
  • Software system design
  • Software system development
  • Software system integration
  • Software system testing
  • Experience in at least four of the following technical areas:
  • Software development using C, C++, or Java
  • Software development for Unix, Linux, or Windows environments
  • Development of Windows DLLs
  • Object-oriented programming
  • Script development using Python, Perl, Bourne shell, C shell, or another scripting language
  • Web development using XML, PHP, MySQL, ColdFusion, or Apache
  • Database experience with Sybase, Oracle, or Microsoft SQL Server
  • Software reverse engineering and analysis
  • Unix or Linux kernel development
  • Bit-level data analysis
  • Computer telephony development using technologies such as Dialogic cards
  • Network protocol and standards experience, including TCP/IP, SNMP, H.323, X.25, 802.11, 802.16, SIP, MEGACO, or MGCP

  • Experience with network protocols such as TCP/IP, MPLS, and Ethernet.
  • Experience performing network or protocol analysis.
  • Experience working with mission-critical or government software systems.
  • Familiarity with multiple programming, scripting, database, and operating-system environments.
