Job description

Under the direction of the supervisor, this person must assist the centerless grinding area, maintaining both proper production and quality levels by periodically checking operators for quantity and quality and spot checking the setups. The incumbent will have complete responsibility for all aspects of the setup and operation of the centerless grinding machines and related precision gauging equipment including recommending the optimum feeds and speeds, determining compensation requirements, selecting the best tools for any particular operation and solving unusual grinding problems that occur in manufacturing. When required, this individual will also change, select and dress grinding wheels. Using all machines and operators, this person will determine the best work assignments in order to maintain quality and the flow of work. This individual must be able to train new employees in the centerless grinding area and must be able to use, check and direct the use of gauges such as micrometers, verniers, indicators, shadow gauges and jo blocks.
This incumbent must also report all maintenance requirements to the supervisors on a timely basis. This person is also responsible for maintain good production records, assisting operators when required and the segregation, identification and transportation of any material within the grinding area. Other responsibilities include keeping the work area clean and safe, filling in on any job in the department has required and performing any other reasonable duties as assigned by the supervisor.
