Job description

SENIOR BUDGET AND FINANCE OFFICER, MIT Museum, reports to the Deputy Director and is responsible for financial planning, reporting, financial operations, risk management, and compliance with MIT financial policies and procedures. Will support the Director & Deputy Director on financial matters and objectives outlined in MITM’s Strategic Plan and work closely with the senior team; partner with the Development Officer and MIT’s central Finance office and has a staff of two; serve as the primary liaison to MIT’s central finance office (VpF) on budgetary, reporting, contractual, and accounting matters; develop, monitor, and report on MITM’s ~$13 million combined annual budget, which includes earned revenue, endowment income, fundraising, contracts, grants, and support from MIT; and regularly briefs the Director and Deputy Director on progress vis a vis the annual budget. Will develop operational plans to improve MITM sustainability by optimizing profitability of earned revenue & fundraising strategies and recommending resource reallocation and/or cost-cutting strategies as needed; and evaluate budget vs. actual performance and develop and report on key monthly, quarterly, and annual performance metrics through a clear, museum-wide financial ‘dashboard’ for staff.
