Biomedical Equipment Engineer I (BMEE I)

Employment Type: Full-Time
Travel: Occasional travel, including nationwide service support

Position Overview

We are seeking a resourceful, self-motivated Biomedical Equipment Engineer I (BMEE I) to provide technical service and support for medical, scientific, and biomedical equipment. This role is responsible for preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, calibration, installation support, and documentation.

The ideal candidate takes ownership of their assigned territory, enjoys learning new technologies and equipment modalities, and understands the importance of preparation, accurate documentation, communication, and follow-through. This position serves as a trusted technical resource and a key point of contact for customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and calibration on general, specialized, and high-tech medical equipment and systems.
  • Use diagnostic tools and test equipment to troubleshoot electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, and electromechanical systems.
  • Independently troubleshoot and repair assigned equipment modalities while following established procedures.
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, electrical prints, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Repair and calibrate equipment according to established specifications and quality standards.
  • Prioritize and triage service work orders to meet contractual service commitments and customer expectations.
  • Operate computers and Microsoft-based software for service documentation and work order management.
  • Maintain accurate and timely service reports, time sheets, expense reports, and other required documentation.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with customers, colleagues, and internal teams.
  • Develop productive working relationships with customers and serve as a reliable technical resource.
  • Work independently while managing service responsibilities, schedules, and customer priorities.
  • Travel occasionally to support customer and nationwide service requirements.
  • Participate in additional projects and responsibilities as assigned by management.
QualificationsEducation & Experience
  • Associate degree in Electronics, completion of a DoD Biomedical Equipment Repair School, or equivalent technical experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience repairing and maintaining medical, biomedical, scientific, or related technical equipment.
Technical Knowledge
  • Strong understanding of electronic systems and equipment operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Experience troubleshooting, maintaining, and calibrating complex scientific or biomedical equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and electronic color-code conventions.
  • Ability to diagnose, repair, test, and calibrate electronic and electromechanical systems.
  • Strong mechanical and technical problem-solving abilities.

  • Valid driver's license in good standing and reliable transportation.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build productive relationships with customers and colleagues at all levels.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to:

  • Sit for periods of time while documenting service activities on a computer.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods while servicing equipment.
  • Frequently bend, squat, climb stairs, kneel, crouch, and reach.
  • Use hands to operate and handle small tools, instruments, and equipment.
  • Demonstrate close vision, distance vision, color recognition, and depth perception.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Move equipment weighing up to 125 pounds with assistance.
