Students at Corcoran engage in rigorous academics paired with CTE pathways that include real-world experiences such as internships, job shadowing, and industry mentorships. The Welding Teacher will help students build technical skills, professional habits, and confidence to pursue post-secondary training, apprenticeships, and skilled trades careers.

  • A strong belief that all students can achieve at high levels.
  • Commitment to serving urban youth and closing opportunity gaps.
  • Ability to create a safe, structured, culturally responsive learning environment.
  • Flexibility and resilience in a dynamic school setting.
  • A passion for hands-on teaching and developing the next generation of skilled tradespeople.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach welding processes including SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, oxy-fuel cutting, plasma cutting, and fabrication techniques.
  • Demonstrate and reinforce safety procedures aligned with OSHA and industry standards.
  • Deliver NYSED-aligned curriculum using demonstrations, lab activities, and project-based learning.
  • Maintain and update course materials to reflect current welding technologies and practices.
  • Support students in developing employability skills, professionalism, and technical portfolios.
  • Ensure students complete at least 60 hours of authentic work-based learning.
  • Build partnerships with local industry, unions, and post-secondary programs.
  • Participate in advisory committee work, CTE re-approval processes, and student recruitment.
  • Assess student progress and prepare them for NYS-approved technical assessments.

Qualifications

  • Significant professional welding or metal fabrication experience (preferred).
  • At least two years of full-time industry experience required for NYSED Transitional A CTE certification.
  • College degree preferred but not required; industry expertise and certifications (AWS, OSHA, etc.) are highly valued.
  • Ability to qualify for a Transitional A CTE certificate in Welding 7-12 while completing certification requirements.
