Project Engineer

Location: Sullivan, IN / Westville IN

Reports To: Senior Project Manager Salary Range: $140,000 to $160,000

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly capable Project Engineer to support large‑scale, complex industrial construction projects. This role serves as a key partner to the Senior Project Manager, helping bridge project execution with accurate cost forecasting, scheduling, vendor coordination, and cross‑functional alignment.

The ideal candidate brings strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and hands‑on experience supporting construction or industrial projects. This individual will play a critical role in planning, budgeting, risk management, and ensuring seamless project delivery from start to finish.

Key ResponsibilitiesEstimating & Budget Support
  • Collaborate with estimating teams to prepare detailed project estimates, budgets, and cost analyses.

  • Monitor project costs and expenditures, providing real‑time updates to the Senior Project Manager.

  • Support the development and maintenance of cost‑control systems to track variances and financial performance.

Project Coordination & Planning
  • Assist in developing project strategies, including scope, objectives, timelines, and budgets.

  • Coordinate with Engineering, Procurement, Fabrication, and Field Operations to align project goals.

  • Support subcontractor selection and coordination to ensure compliance with project specifications.

Scheduling & Timeline Management
  • Help develop and maintain detailed project schedules using industry‑standard scheduling tools.

  • Track project milestones, identify schedule risks, and recommend mitigation strategies.

  • Provide timely updates on project deliverables to internal and external stakeholders.

Quality Assurance & Compliance
  • Work with Quality Control teams to ensure project activities meet industry standards and client requirements.

  • Assist in documenting and resolving quality‑related issues.

  • Verify that construction practices comply with safety regulations and company policies.

Risk Identification & Mitigation
  • Support the Senior Project Manager in identifying technical, financial, and schedule‑related risks.

  • Participate in developing and maintaining risk mitigation plans.

  • Assist with change orders, scope adjustments, and unforeseen project challenges.

Client & Stakeholder Relations
  • Coordinate with clients and external stakeholders under the guidance of the Senior Project Manager.

  • Provide project status updates and gather feedback to maintain strong working relationships.

  • Assist with client inquiries, issues, and change requests.

Project Reporting & Documentation
  • Prepare and distribute project status reports, cost‑tracking documents, and performance metrics.

  • Maintain accurate project records, including meeting minutes and action items.

  • Contribute to project presentations and ensure data is current and clearly communicated.

Contract Administration
  • Support contract review and management activities.

  • Track compliance with contract terms and coordinate with legal or internal teams as needed.

  • Identify and elevate potential contractual issues or variations.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.

  • 3+ years of experience in estimating, project coordination, or construction management.

  • Proficiency with project management software, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and manage budgets, estimates, and cost reports.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams.

  • Knowledge of construction industry practices, regulations, and safety standards.

  • Ability to travel to project sites as required.
