Role: Method Development Scientist

Location: Maryland (Onsite)

Duration: 3+ Month Contract

Position Overview

We are seeking a Method Development Scientist to support analytical method development and characterization activities for advanced materials and nanofiber-based products. This role will focus on evaluating and optimizing fiber length measurement techniques, improving sample preparation methods, and assessing new analytical technologies to enhance accuracy, precision, and reproducibility.

The ideal candidate will have experience with microscopy, particle characterization techniques, method development, and experimental design within a laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate existing SEM-based fiber length measurement methodologies and identify sources of variability impacting data quality.
  • Assess the feasibility of utilizing Malvern Morphologi or similar image-based particle analysis systems for nanofiber characterization.
  • Develop, optimize, and validate sample preparation techniques to improve fiber dispersion and minimize entanglement.
  • Design and execute comparative studies evaluating SEM, Morphologi, and alternative analytical methods.
  • Analyze method performance based on accuracy, precision, robustness, repeatability, and reproducibility.
  • Generate technical reports, summarize findings, and present recommendations to project stakeholders.
  • Support troubleshooting, method optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain laboratory documentation in accordance with company procedures and quality requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional R&D, analytical, and engineering teams to support project objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in analytical method development, materials characterization, or laboratory research.
  • Hands-on experience with Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and image analysis techniques.
  • Experience designing and executing experimental studies and data analysis.
  • Strong understanding of particle characterization and measurement methodologies.
  • Excellent technical writing, documentation, and reporting skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
