We have an immediate opening for a Process Controls Engineer working hybrid out of the Baton Rouge / Geismar, Louisiana area. This position will be part of Air Products' Americas Operations Central Engineering - HyCO Process Controls Engineering group.
Travel is mostly local within the Baton Rogue / Geismar area, but infrequent travel may be required to other Air Products locations in North America; the incumbent should expect to travel ~ 5% of the time outside the region. We offer flexible hybrid remote/onsite work accommodation.
Process Controls Engineers work closely with our operating facilities as the authorities in DCS, SIS, and PLC automation system build and support. They provide expertise on instrumentation and control devices to keep our plants operating safely and providing product to our customers. They work on industrial process control and safety instrumented systems in support of capital projects, plant production initiatives, alignment with operations and engineering standards, and reliability improvement efforts.
The individual will work closely with regional process controls engineers, plant process engineers, area managers, and site supervisors and operating staff.
Key Job Responsibilities:
The incumbent provides process control systems engineering support for our production facilities in the Baton Rouge / Geismar, Louisiana region.
Responsible sites include several world-class steam methane reformers (SMR) producing hydrogen and carbon monoxide products, satellite offgas purification facilities, and hydrogen pipeline assets.

Required Skills / Abilities:
  • Supports daily operation of control systems in the context of overall facility operation, builds and implements changes to improve safety and operability, and conducts root cause analyses internally and with automation vendors.
  • Identifies, complete, and supports improvement projects related to DCS & SIS systems.
  • Responsible for the long-term planning and lifecycle support of control systems with respect to programming, preventive maintenance, and upgrade migrations.
  • Addresses instrumentation and automation system obsolescence.
  • Implements changes to the control logic, HMI, database, and prepares documentation of these changes.
  • Aligns with local I&E technicians, providing support and leadership for instrument-related activities.
  • Contributes to the improvement and optimization of existing assets.
  • Drives improvements in plant reliability, cyber security, and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Meets organizational goals for safety.

Minimum Hiring Requirements:
  • Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of experience in process automation systems and/or instrumentation engineering.
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and the ability to access and safely operate a reliable personal vehicle on an ongoing basis.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the US without current or future sponsorship (e.g. temporary work visa or work permit).

Desired Skills:
  • Hands-on knowledge of control systems (DCS/PLC). Experience with Siemens PCS7 or ABB 800xA preferred.
  • Knowledge of field instrumentation, including valves and transmitters.
  • Proficiency and experience with concepts related to level, temperature, pressure, and flow measurement.
  • Foundational understanding of computer networks.
  • General knowledge of cybersecurity as relates to industrial control systems.
  • General knowledge of safety instrumented systems as applicable to mechanical integrity.
  • Self-motivated with strong interpersonal and communication skills. Must be capable of working in a team environment with shared responsibilities.
  • Effective communicator able to present complex topics to varied audiences, including customers, vendors, management, and site personnel.
