POSITION OVERVIEW

Honsador Lumber is seeking a highly motivated and results-driven Outside Sales Representative – Building Materials to develop and grow sales within an assigned territory on Kauai.

This position is responsible for selling lumber, building materials, engineered wood products, millwork, windows, doors, roofing products, hardware, and other construction-related products to contractors, builders, developers, architects, and homeowners. The successful candidate will focus on developing new business opportunities, growing existing accounts, identifying project opportunities, and generating pull-through sales from specification through project completion.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong relationship-building skills, construction industry knowledge, and a passion for delivering exceptional customer service.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and grow sales within an assigned geographic territory.
  • Prospect for new business opportunities and establish relationships with contractors, builders, developers, architects, and homeowners.
  • Maintain and expand relationships with existing customers.
  • Promote and sell building materials, lumber, millwork, windows, doors, and related construction products.
  • Identify and pursue project opportunities from planning through completion.
  • Conduct jobsite visits and review plans and specifications to identify product opportunities and perform material takeoffs.
  • Prepare quotations, bids, proposals, and sales contracts.
  • Discuss pricing, product specifications, availability, and delivery schedules with customers.
  • Coordinate with inside sales representatives, purchasing staff, product managers, dispatch, and operations personnel to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Conduct product demonstrations and customer training.
  • Ensure customer information, project details, and sales activity are accurately maintained in company systems.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with purchasing agents, project managers, estimators, and other key decision-makers.
  • Investigate and resolve customer concerns and service issues promptly and professionally.
  • Attend trade shows, industry events, builder association meetings, and networking opportunities.
  • Prepare annual sales plans, forecasts, and budgets in collaboration with sales management.
  • Perform market research and identify opportunities for new products and services.
  • Prepare reports regarding sales activities, customer visits, opportunities, and expenses.
  • Continuously improve product knowledge and stay current with industry trends.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous outside sales experience preferred.
  • Building materials, construction, lumberyard, millwork, contractor sales, or related industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to develop new business and maintain long-term customer relationships.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to read blueprints and construction plans preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree preferred; or one to two years of related sales experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience in building materials, lumber, construction, millwork, windows and doors, or contractor sales is highly desirable.
