What is contractor insurance?

Contractor insurance is a type of business insurance designed to protect contractors and construction professionals from financial losses related to their work. It typically covers risks such as property damage, bodily injury to third parties, and legal costs arising from accidents or mistakes on the job. Common types of contractor insurance include general liability, workers’ compensation, and tools and equipment coverage. Having the right insurance helps ensure contractors meet legal requirements and client expectations, and provides peace of mind while working on projects.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in contractor insurance, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in contractor insurance often navigate challenges such as keeping up with changing regulations, accurately assessing risk for a diverse range of contracting businesses, and clearly communicating policy details to clients who may be unfamiliar with insurance terminology. Staying updated through ongoing education and industry resources, collaborating closely with underwriters and risk assessors, and developing strong client communication skills can help address these challenges. Teamwork within the agency and regular training sessions also play a crucial role in effectively managing client expectations and ensuring compliance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Contractor Insurance Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Contractor Insurance Specialist, you need a solid understanding of insurance products, risk assessment, and relevant legal regulations, typically supported by a state insurance license. Familiarity with insurance management software, quoting systems, and CRM platforms is essential for efficiency and accuracy. Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and problem-solving skills help build client trust and tailor solutions to unique contractor needs. AAA Insurance - Licensed Sales & Service Representative
Waterford, MI
* Insurance Agency Experience Required *

$2,000 Sign-On Bonus for Candidates with Current AAA/Meemic Experience
(Paid after 90 days of employment)
We’re a growing AAA insurance agency looking for an experienced, licensed insurance professional who enjoys helping people, building relationships, and being part of a positive, supportive team.
This is not a call center. No micromanaging. No corporate red tape. Just a team that works hard, supports one another, and takes pride in doing things the right way.
Life happens. We believe in flexibility, open communication, accountability, and treating people like adults.
Please Note: This position requires prior insurance agency experience. We are seeking candidates who have previously worked in an insurance agency servicing or selling personal lines insurance products. Candidates who are licensed but have not worked in an insurance agency environment may not be a fit for this role.
This is an in-office position located in Waterford, Michigan. Remote work is not available at this time.
What You’ll Do
  • Service auto and home insurance clients
  • Handle policy changes, billing questions,  endorsements, and coverage reviews
  • Quote and follow up on new business opportunities
  • Build strong client relationships and improve retention
  • Identify coverage gaps and make recommendations when appropriate
  • Assist clients with policy questions and claims guidance
  • Refer life insurance opportunities to our licensed specialists
  • Help create an outstanding customer experience that keeps clients with our agency long-term
Required Qualifications
  • Active Michigan Property & Casualty License
  • Minimum 1 year of insurance agency experience preferred
  • Experience servicing or selling personal lines insurance products
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Comfortable discussing coverages and making recommendations
  • Organized, dependable, and able to manage your workload independently
  • Ability to remain calm and professional during difficult customer interactions
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change throughout the day
  • Positive attitude, sense of humor, and team-first mindset
What You’ll Get
  •  Full-time schedule, Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  •  Office closed daily from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM for lunch
  •  Competitive salary plus commission and bonus opportunities
  •  Health insurance benefits
  •  Paid holidays and PTO
  •  SIMPLE IRA with employer match
  •  Ongoing training and professional development
  •  A supportive, low-drama work environment where your contributions are valued and recognized
Why This Role Is Different
We’re a locally owned agency, not a corporate office. You’ll have the support, training, and structure you need to succeed, but you’ll also have the autonomy and trust to do your job without someone looking over your shoulder all day.
We’re looking for someone who enjoys helping people, takes pride in their work, and wants to be part of a team that values both performance and culture. If you’re dependable, personable, and looking for a long-term opportunity with a growing agency, we’d love to talk.
To apply, send your resume to JPGilroy@acg.aaa.com and include a brief note telling us why you’d be a great fit for our team.
This position is with a AAA independent contractor insurance agent, not with AAA The Auto Club Group. Employees of AAA agents must successfully complete any applicable licensing requirements and training programs. Employees of AAA agents are not employees of AAA The Auto Club Group.
