Location: Head Office, Etobicoke

We are a fully integrated general contractor operating in the GTA, executing projects from parking lots for our private clients to municipal roadway widenings and highway interchange replacement and snow removal for our municipal and provincial partners.

This position is for 2 existing vacancies.

Pay scale: $ 42.00 - $ 53.00 per hour depending on experience

This position includes diagnosis of causes of breakdown, ordering required parts, removal, rework and installation of various engine and chassis components, as well as implementing and /or modifying maintenance schedules. Work assignments will be received in the form of oral or written work orders, but the Heavy Equipment Mechanic will be expected to determine the nature and extent of the necessary repairs.

Job Duties:

  • Repair and adjust hydraulic pumps, safety valves, and any other necessary mechanical components
  • Inspect, repair and adjust gasoline and diesel-powered units
  • Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations and compliances
  • Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the supervisor in order to facilitate prompt correction or reporting
  • Diagnose defects in heavy duty equipment
  • Perform mechanical repairs on equipment in the shop and road calls when required
  • Operate automotive servicing equipment
  • Installation of new and added-on equipment
  • Electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting and diagnostics
  • Repair cooling, and lubrication systems
  • Install and align engines and machinery
  • Repair mechanical transmissions, drivetrains and final drives
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance
  • Clean, lubricate and perform other maintenance work
  • Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology and repair techniques
  • Other mechanical repair work as required
  • Mentor apprentice mechanics

Requirements:

  • 310T or 421License
  • Completion of college/CEGEP/vocational or technical training
  • Appropriate credentials and certifications
  • 5-10 years experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Mathematics, oral and written communication skills at the trade journeyman level
  • Ability to work independently in a busy environment
  • Experience with routine maintenance operations
  • Working knowledge of related maintenance and repair practices
  • Working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic pumps, motors, and air brake systems
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Able to work well under pressure
  • Ability to deal with multiple tasks and prioritize work effectively
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all time

Work Conditions

Travel Requirements

To off-site locations will be required.

This position requires both day, night shifts weekends and overtime during the winter months.

Physical Environment

Exposure to disagreeable elements (such as inclement weather).

Physical Demands

High. Manual activities, bending, twisting, lifting up to 50 lbs. occasionally. Physical hazards associated with the trade.
