Position Purpose  

As an Apprentice Service Technician, you will specialize in performing basic scheduled maintenance on customer systems.  You will also help to perform startup, service, maintenance and repair of commercial HVAC equipment and HVAC systems according to LONG service procedures. Using experience gained in the HVAC industry and/or education program and under the direction of Journeyman Service Technicians, Service Supervisors, and Project Managers, the Apprentice Service Technician will perform maintenance on customer equipment while providing excellent customer service and helping to prevent HVAC system issues.  

Pay Range: $18 - $32.76 plus potential profit share.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

To perform this job successfully, you must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties or tasks assigned as required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to: 

  • Specialize in performing scheduled maintenance tasks on commercial HVAC such as coil cleaning, air filter replacement, and basic inspections on customer equipment. 
  • Assist senior technicians perform startup, service, troubleshooting, and repair of HVAC equipment and HVAC systems according to LONG’s service procedures under the supervision of an experienced Service Technician 
  • Regularly attend and complete any assigned training courses while making steady progress towards Service Technician I.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting customers upon arrival at job sites, confirming satisfaction before departing, and consistently representing the company with professionalism.
  • Promptly and accurately complete all required paperwork while on the job.
  • Use a variety of hand tools and power tools at a basic level to troubleshoot, repair and install HVAC equipment.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with customers, technicians, dispatch, sales, and management.
  • Commit to adhering to safety regulations and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for oneself and others while performing HVAC tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications  

  • 1 year of HVAC trade school or 1 year of mechanical and/or electrical work experience.
  • Must be mechanically inclined and possess good customer service skills.
  • A willingness to learn and develop your HVAC skills.
  • Ability to work after-hours when needed.
  • This position requires the ability to drive a company vehicle safely and legally.
  • Moderate oral, written, interpersonal communication skills, as well as excellent documentation and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Own, or can obtain, personal hand tools.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Outlook, Excel) and able to learn additional computer software. 

Preferred Qualifications  

  • The ability to obtain a valid CFC Refrigeration certificate within 30 days after first day of employment.

Physical Requirements 

  • This position includes sitting, lifting, bending, and kneeling for extended periods.
  • This position requires climbing ladders, working in mechanical rooms, and on roofs. 
  • This position may require lifting to 75 lbs. from floor to countertop and countertop to floor.
  • This position may require working in confined or tight spaces, such as mechanical rooms for installation and repair tasks.
