Job Description

AECOM is seeking a highly talented Structural Dam Safety Engineering Project Manager/Technical Lead to join the East Region Dams Team. This position will support a variety Dam Safety Engineering projects across the East Region. The successful candidate will join the ENR consistently ranked #1 Dams and Reservoirs firm and have access to exciting career advancement opportunities. This position will report to one of the AECOM offices in the East Region including but not limited to Atlanta, Georgia; Latham, New York; Buffalo, New York; Conshohocken, Pennsylvania; Germantown, Maryland; Charlotte, North Carolina; Franklin Tennessee; or Tampa, Florida.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Perform the roles of a Project Manager such as maintaining client relationships, contracting, project planning and execution, financial management, technical management, change management and project team management including subcontractors.

  • Client facing role with ownership and responsibility for the successful delivery of dam engineering projects and programs including business development and proposal preparation for new and existing clients.

  • Lead the technical execution of projects including structural stability and strength analyses, structural design, Potential Failure Mode Analyses, Semi-Quantitative Risk Assessments, site inspection, construction observation, and regulatory compliance activities associated with a variety of hydraulic concrete structures such as spillways, outlet works, and other site civil structures.

  • Plan, manage and lead field investigations for various hydraulic structures.

  • Prepare and perform quality control reviews of other Engineer's work on deliverables such design calculations, engineering reports, construction drawings, and technical specifications.

  • Build and maintain project schedules for delivering project success including the management of resources, budgets and risk.

  • Plan, direct, supervise and lead multi-disciplinary teams on a variety of Dam Safety Engineering projects.

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff.

  • Flexibility and willingness to travel for project work and business development part time as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in Structural Engineering + 8 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer in at least one state with the ability to successfully apply for reciprocity in additional states.
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct experience managing projects or completing project management activities such as maintain project budgets, schedule, staffing, quality control, and/or client relations.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience developing proposals including preparing technical approaches and scopes of work, budgeting, and scheduling.
  • Occasional travel to project sites, client meetings, and/or professional conferences is required.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License and as a condition of employment, must be able to pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records review.
  • Due to the nature of work, U.S. Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structural Engineering.
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to complete the Managing AECOM Projects training and receive the AECOM Project Manager certification.  The successful candidate will be expected to start the training program within 6 months of hire.
  • Experience with relevant software such as Microsoft Power BI and Project, Primavera P6, Bluebeam and project management information systems (PMIS) such as Procore and e-Builder, AutoCAD, Mathcad, STADD Pro and Ansys.
  • Passion for mentoring junior staff and leadership - guiding our growing team of engineers to produce quality work and excellent client service.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Project experience with the US Army Corps of Engineers.
  • Approved FERC Independent Consultant (IC) or the ability to receive FERC approval to perform Part 12D Inspections.
  • Experience performing risk assessments and Potential Failure Mode Analyses (PFMAs) related to dam design, construction, and operation.
