Job description

Work in the steel warehouse operation by performing the following duties:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Arrive on time for your shift, properly attired, including company uniform and steel-toed shoes, and ready for work.
  • Wear PPE as required – hard hat, safety glasses, and steel-toed shoes worn at all times; gloves worn when handling steel.
  • Notify your supervisor of any issues that arise during your shift (damaged material, processing errors, equipment breakdowns, accidents, etc.).
  • Pull, put away, load, unload, color code (paint), process, bundle, label, and tag steel.
  • Obtain customer’s signature and printed name on all necessary documents.
  • Allow no material to leave the warehouse without the proper paperwork.
  • Transport Steel products to outside customers and other branches
  • Assist in the unloading of your vehicle
  • Occasionally, pick up material from vendors or returns from customers
  • Check loads against the manifest
  • Secure loads to meet DOT requirements
  • Tarp load when required
  • Operate all equipment properly and safely.
  • Perform, and document, if required, equipment inspections and service as directed by your supervisor.
  • Clean and tidy your work area daily.
  • Perform miscellaneous warehouse activities when assigned by your supervisor.
  • Participate in the annual physical inventory and perform daily cycle counts.
  • Act in accordance with the policies set forth in the current Employee Handbook and the Employee Safety Handbook.

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION
  • Cell phone use – You are not allowed to have or use a cell phone during your work shift. You may be use your cell phone while at lunch and on break, but not in a work zone.
  • Appearance – While on duty, it is expected that you maintain a clean-cut, professional appearance at all times. Your uniforms should be properly maintained (notify the uniform company of any damage to your uniform pieces immediately).
  • Smoking – No smoking and no vaping is allowed in Company vehicles and undesignated areas.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb and/or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to ten pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to fifty pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than one hundred pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must have: the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; the ability to read a tape measure and calipers.
