Environmental Specialist – 1

Location: Calera, AL

Contract- 3 Years

Client- Alabama Power

Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated Environmental Specialist (Level 1) with 0–5 years of experience to join our team. This entry-level role supports environmental compliance, regulatory affairs, and sustainability initiatives. The successful candidate will collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders to help maintain compliance with environmental regulations, minimize environmental impacts, and advance sustainable practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in environmental compliance activities to ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Support the preparation of reports, permits, and documentation required for regulatory agencies.
  • Conduct environmental sampling and inspections across air, water, and land programs.
  • Operate and maintain power boats and watercraft as needed for field sampling and monitoring.
  • Participate in sustainability initiatives, including resource conservation and waste reduction projects.
  • Assist with project management activities such as scheduling, reporting, and tracking milestones.
  • Work independently and collaboratively across multiple projects, providing technical support to project teams.
  • Perform outdoor fieldwork in varied weather conditions while following all safety protocols.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field required.

Experience:

  • 0–5 years of relevant experience in environmental sampling, compliance, or sustainability.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local environmental regulations and permitting processes.
  • Prior fieldwork experience, especially operating boats/watercraft, is desirable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication abilities for interacting with diverse stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

  • Must be comfortable performing fieldwork in challenging outdoor conditions.
